At a regular press conference on the afternoon of January 11, the press mentioned that on January 10, Irish police opened an investigation into human trafficking after 14 illegal immigrants, including three Vietnamese, were found inside a refrigerated container at the port of Rosslare.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that immediately after receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland, concurrently in Ireland, to contact local authorities to coordinate in investigating and closely follow the investigation process.
According to the latest information provided by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, local authorities have announced that there are 3 people believed to be Vietnamese citizens involved in this incident.
The spokesperson said that, following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland is continuing to closely coordinate with local authorities to verify identities and is ready to take necessary citizen protection measures.
Irish police announced on January 10 that they had launched a human trafficking investigation after 14 migrants were found hiding in a refrigerated lorry at the port of Rosslare. The group included nine men, three women and two children. The migrants had apparently been inside the container for more than 24 hours and were safe. The entire group was medically examined and is in stable health.
The men were discovered when the refrigerated truck stopped at the entrance to a ferry departing from Zeebrugge (Belgium) on January 8.
Irish authorities were tipped off about the suspicious lorry by a migrant, and police were waiting for it before it arrived at the port.
