Ministry of Education recommends no power outages during high school graduation exams

The Ministry of Education and Training requires localities to provide stable electricity and water during the high school graduation exam.

In an official dispatch dated June 6 sent to the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities regarding coordination in organizing the 2023 high school graduation exam, the Ministry of Education and Training requested that localities have contingency plans to respond to unusual situations.

Specifically, provinces and cities must ensure stable electricity and water supply, create the most favorable conditions for candidates, and prevent candidates from having to drop out of the exam due to economic difficulties, travel conditions, or the impact of epidemics or extreme weather.

Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management, shared that ensuring stable electricity is especially necessary for major exams such as the high school graduation exam. This not only helps candidates reduce fatigue and ensure their health, but also helps ensure safety and security in many stages such as printing and preserving exam papers.

In fact, in recent days, many localities in the North have had to take turns cutting off electricity due to power shortages. The power cuts are not only for 1-2 hours but sometimes for the whole day. At the end of April, EVN predicted that the North could lack 1,600-4,900 MW during the dry season. At the Government press conference on the afternoon of June 4, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai admitted that this is "no longer a risk" when some places lack electricity for production and daily life.

Power outages make it difficult for students to study for exams, especially when many places have unexpected power outages. During the 10th grade entrance exam at Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted early last week, the entire school lost power for about 10 minutes, making many students and parents unhappy.

In addition to ensuring adequate electricity and water, the Ministry of Education and Training also requires localities to focus on transporting and preserving exam papers, ensuring security, order, traffic safety, and communications.

This year’s high school graduation exam took place over two days, June 28-29, with more than one million candidates participating. Grade 12 students took four exams, including Math, Literature, Foreign Language, and chose one of two combined exams: Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education for general education; or History, Geography for continuing education).
