The Western guy confided that he opened a free vegetable stall 2 weeks ago, located in An Khanh Ward, Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City). His house has a garden of more than 100 square meters, where he grows many types of green vegetables.
“We planted a lot, and when it was time to harvest, our family couldn’t eat it all. My father said we should give it away to people to get the herbs, so I came up with the idea of opening a vegetable stall. However, we had more than enough to eat but not enough to give away, so I went to the market to buy more types of vegetables for variety. The funds were taken from the profits from my family restaurant business,” Hai Au recounted.
The vegetable stall is open from 3pm to 9pm and he said he tries to maintain it every day. New vegetables are constantly being grown in the garden, but because there is not enough supply, he often goes to the market to buy more.
GET BACK THE SMILE
According to the story, the vegetable stall often receives struggling lottery ticket sellers, motorbike taxi drivers, etc. to receive vegetables. Mr. Hai Au said that every day there are about 10-15 customers coming to get vegetables, most people take just enough to eat, no leftovers.

“There were some people who I saw took too little and wanted to give me more. But they refused and said that they had already used that much and couldn’t finish it all if they took more. I really admire their kindness,” the vegetable stall owner said.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, residing in An Hoa Ward (Can Tho City), said that this was the second time he came to Hai Au's vegetable stall to receive free vegetables. The man confided that he was a motorbike taxi driver, his wife sold lottery tickets for a living, and their circumstances were not good, so he heard that many people only had free vegetable stalls, so he came to receive them.
“Today, I bought some cassava and jackfruit to eat. The vegetables here are very fresh, just like those sold at the market. I am extremely grateful to the vegetable stall owner for helping those in need. It is so precious. I hope this vegetable stall will last a long time so that we can come and receive free vegetables. It seems like this, but for my family, it saves a lot!”, Mr. Hai expressed.
For Mr. Hai Au, the smiles and thanks from people who come to receive vegetables are the greatest gifts he receives and also the motivation for him to continue maintaining the vegetable stall as long as possible.
He smiled and added that after the story of his vegetable stall became known to many people on social media, he often received vegetable donations from people. Some people from Da Nang and Binh Dinh sent them, which surprised and touched him. It was this solidarity that helped this fragrant vegetable stall to last longer.
