On the afternoon of December 30, the Ministry of Transport held a conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy key tasks in 2025.

The leader of the Ministry of Transport said that in 2024, the Ministry started 10 transport projects and inaugurated and put into operation 8 projects. Many complicated problems and difficulties have been focused on and resolved, such as site clearance and material sources for projects, especially in the southern region. Up to now, the progress of key projects has been ensured, some component projects of the North-South Expressway from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa are expected to be completed 3-6 months ahead of schedule.

Specifically, regarding roads, the Ministry of Transport has submitted to the National Assembly for approval the investment policy for the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh Expressway Project, has started 8 projects, completed and put into operation 7 projects, bringing the total number of kilometers of expressways nationwide to 2,021 kilometers.

The Ministry has also reviewed and developed a detailed plan, directed investors and contractors to resolutely organize implementation to complete the target of 3,000 km by 2025; completed the selection of investors for 8 rest stops, and is currently inviting bids for the remaining 13 rest stops.

Regarding aviation, the National Assembly has approved the adjustment of the investment policy for the Long Thanh International Airport Project; the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport Project and the T3 Passenger Terminal Project - Tan Son Nhat International Airport is basically guaranteed, with many component projects exceeding the plan.

In particular, in 2024, the National Assembly approved the investment policy for the high-speed railway project on the North-South axis. Currently, relevant agencies are actively implementing the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong project to strive to start construction by the end of 2025.

The representative of the Ministry of Transport added that, as a specialized management agency, the Ministry has closely coordinated and supported localities in the preparation and implementation of 9 expressway projects of which the localities are the managing agencies.

In addition to the achieved results, at the conference, the leaders of the Ministry of Transport also frankly pointed out some shortcomings and limitations. Among them, some key projects have not yet had 100% of the land handed over. Investment in traffic monitoring and control systems and rest stops is still slow, not ensuring synchronization in the management and operation process...

19 projects to start in 2025

Regarding the tasks in 2025, the Ministry of Transport said it will strive to start 19 projects, of which 14 will be managed by the Ministry and 5 by localities. Also in 2025, 50 projects will be completed.

In particular, completing component projects, connecting the North-South expressway in the East and working with localities to complete a number of expressway projects to achieve the goal of putting 3,000 km of expressway into operation; completing and basically connecting the Ho Chi Minh road.

Expressways include: Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang, Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan, Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot, Bien Hoa-Vung Tau, Ben Luc-Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, An Huu-Cao Lanh, Cao Lanh-Lo Te, Lo Te-Rach Soi.

At the same time, the Ministry of Transport will also speed up investment preparation to start projects: Upgrading and expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh, Cam Lo - La Son, La Son - Tuy Loan expressways; Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway, My An - Cao Lanh expressway phase 1... in the first and second quarters of 2025.
