With a major in the world's top 100, Hanoi Medical University aims to become the leading research-oriented Health Sciences University in Asia by 2030.
Professor Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, shared the above orientation on December 25, on the occasion of the school's three majors being ranked by ShanghaiRanking, a prestigious and influential university evaluation organization (alongside QS and THE ), in 2023.
Specifically, the school's Public Health department is ranked in the 76-100 group in the world, Clinical Medicine is ranked 101-150, and Human Biological Sciences is ranked 201-300.
This ranking was released by ShanghaiRanking after considering many academic indicators from third-party data, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality and international academic awards.
In the field of Public Health, Vietnam has Duy Tan University also ranked in the 76-100 group, Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the 101-150 group. However, Hanoi Medical University is the first and only higher education institution in the health training group to be ranked in three fields.
"These are the 'backbone' industries of health science training, likened to a strong tripod in medical training," said Mr. Tu.

In addition to being on the ShanghaiRanking list, last school year, Hanoi Medical University was ranked 365th in the world by US News in the field of Clinical Medicine.
According to Mr. Tu, these rankings are recognized objectively because the school has not registered and does not provide ranking data. This demonstrates the efforts of the school's faculty, researchers, and students, contributing to putting Vietnamese medical training on the world map.
"These rankings create confidence and important motivation for teachers and students of the school to try harder, ensure sustainable achievements and prepare for better rankings in more majors," said Mr. Tu.
Currently, Hanoi Medical University focuses on comprehensively innovating training, opening new majors to meet social needs, investing and promoting scientific research and international publishing, developing practice hospitals, and implementing deep international integration.
"The school is developing a project to submit to all levels to turn Hanoi Medical University into a leading research-oriented health science university in Asia in the near future," Mr. Tu informed.
Building Hanoi Medical University into a University of Health Sciences is a strategic vision, included in the Master Plan for the school's development until 2030.
ShanghaiRanking began publishing world university rankings by subject in 2009. In 2023, more than 1,900 universities in 104 countries and regions were ranked in 55 subjects.
The President of Hanoi Medical University said that in the coming time, the school will participate in other influential rankings such as QS and THE .
