Participating in the 2023 Economic Student Volunteer Campaign in Mang Thit District, students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics have left many beautiful impressions. Not only are they enthusiastic and dynamic, but they also bring many useful projects and tasks to the locality.

The Hoa My 2 Hamlet Road (My An Commune, Mang Thit) is one of the key projects of the campaign for local people. The road is nearly 1,300m long, the road surface is 2m wide, and the total value is over 860 million VND.

Of which, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics supported 500 million VND; the rest was matched by the District People's Committee and the commune people. With the consensus of the people and the contribution of more than 40 volunteer students, the road was soon completed and put into use in the joy of the local people.

Cycling smoothly on the woven road instead of the difficult stone road of the past, Ms. Huynh Thi Tuyet Van (My Hoa 2 hamlet, My An commune) smiled happily. She said: "Thanks to the students who came to support the locality, the people have new and spacious roads like this. Traveling is easier, and today I asked for flowers to plant along the road to make it more beautiful."

To carry out this project, the young people were divided into two groups. The boys helped the people transport sand, rocks, cement, mix concrete, and pour the floor. The girls helped build the sidewalks on both sides... Looking back at the results after nearly 20 days of contributing their efforts, Tran Trung Kien couldn't help but excitedly say: "I feel very proud to support the people to have a convenient and safe road."

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has over 340 student volunteers participating in the Green Summer in Mang Thit district. With the slogan "Green volunteer, green economy, beautiful homeland", each locality has a youth project, the youth work of building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, the school's students have implemented projects such as bridge construction, rural roads, lighting up rural roads, environmental sanitation, and taking care of flower roads in 7 communes where they are stationed. In addition, the young people also carry out projects to prevent and combat plastic waste, renovate children's playgrounds, and summer review for students. Not to mention, the young people also proactively carry out arising tasks, supporting the timely resolution of pressing issues of local people...

In My Phuoc commune (Mang Thit), in addition to supporting funding and working days to build a model new rural hamlet road, students also helped people overcome landslides caused by storms and rains.

“Not waiting for people to ask, not waiting for people to remind”, the volunteers unanimously and jointly coordinated with the locals to patch and repair the road to reduce the damage caused by landslides. Phan Doan Phuoc Dat, a student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics Branch in Vinh Long, shared: “It is so happy when we support our fellow countrymen with practical tasks like this. And from there, the affection between the locals and us, the green summer soldiers, has become increasingly closer.”

In Nhon Phu commune, after hearing that Mrs. Trinh Thi Muon, residing in Phu Thanh A hamlet, had her house collapsed due to a storm, young people immediately mobilized and connected with benefactors to provide timely support. Afterwards, they visited, encouraged and supported her with 40 million VND to repair her house.

With the students' concern and sharing, Mrs. Muon was moved and said: "I live alone, in a very difficult situation. When the house collapsed, I was very worried, not knowing what to do. There are students here to support me with money to rebuild the house, I am very happy, very grateful."

After nearly a month of returning to their hometowns, with the support of the school, the students have implemented 18 practical and effective projects in the communes. Notable among them are 5 rural traffic routes with a total length of nearly 3,500m; building a new inter-commune bridge; 3 youth projects “Lighting up the countryside roads” with a length of 3,900m and 3 projects to prevent plastic waste... with a total welfare value of 1.5 billion VND.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tien - Commander of the Vinh Long Economic Student Volunteer Campaign, said: "In the days since we arrived in Mang Thit district, we have felt the deep affection of the people for the Green Summer soldiers. Above all, the trust of the Party Committee, the school's board of directors as well as the locality always cares and supports the students in every activity. This is the joy and motivation for us to devote our youth to building the locality."
