On the afternoon of September 29, 2024 in Hanoi, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) and RIW Group, Federal Republic of Germany signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in training railway welding according to German standards in Vietnam.
Attending the signing ceremony were General Director Hoang Gia Khanh, representatives of the Office and specialized departments of Vietnam Railways Corporation. On the side of RIW Group, there was Mr. Jörg Stümer, Chairman of the Group and Director of Kata Services - a partner of RIW Group in Germany.
On behalf of VNR's leadership, General Director Hoang Gia Khanh welcomed and applauded RIW Group for trusting and choosing VNR as a partner to cooperate in training railway welding according to German standards in Vietnam . The General Director said, "As the unit assigned to manage and maintain the national railway structure system in Vietnam, Vietnam Railways Corporation currently has about 11,000 employees out of a total of more than 22,000 railway officers and employees performing management and maintenance work on 7 national railway lines. This October, the Government will report to the Vietnamese National Assembly to approve the investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway with a total length of 1,541 km and an operating speed of 350 km/h. High-speed railways cannot be without rail welding and cooperation with RIW Group at this stage is very suitable."
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Jörg Stümer - Chairman of RIW Group said: "Established in 1981 in the Federal Republic of Germany, RIW Group is currently headquartered in Cologne, with offices in Berlin, Bottrop, Boenen, Dortmund, Duren... In the railway sector, RIW is a leading group in maintenance, quality assurance as well as training and certification of welding skills in Germany. The Group's subsidiary, RIW Personalservice, is currently working closely with the German National Railway to provide railway operation and maintenance workers". The Group's cooperation orientation with VNR is to improve the quality of railway welding and strengthen international cooperation. Specifically, the two sides will cooperate to develop and implement German-standard welding training programs in Vietnam that meet international standards, and are capable of working on major projects in Vietnam, Germany and other countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, etc.
The cooperation between VNR and RIW Group not only helps develop high-quality human resources in the welding field but also further strengthens the international cooperation between the two countries in the fields of industry and education.
