Product design that improves lives
Improving people's living conditions, hygiene and health is one of the social commitments and the focus of sustainable development that businesses like Unilever Vietnam always aim for.
Oral health issues have been a concern for Unilever Vietnam and the P/S brand for many years. Typically, the problem of tooth sensitivity can affect life experiences. Therefore, P/S has researched and developed Active Remin Complex™ technology applied in the Sensitive Mineral Expert product line to help solve the problem of tooth sensitivity and pain from the root with the impact and power of mineral to restore tooth enamel.
Providing easy access to safe drinking water is another way to improve people’s health. Unilever has made this possible by developing Gravity filtration technology with a chlorine-killing system and double activated carbon, and applying it to the Pureit Classic water purifier, which can operate without electricity.
Unilever's Beauty category also applies technology - innovation to transform the way products are designed and built, promoting a more comprehensive product portfolio, thereby bringing more benefits to both the environment and customers through superior product experiences and keeping up with consumer trends.
Cut greenhouse gases, promote carbon positivity
Applying technology to greenhouse gas reduction initiatives is promoted by Unilever Vietnam to contribute to addressing climate change.
A typical example is the application of innovation in turning waste into Biomass pellets for use in boilers, completely replacing fossil fuels and diesel.
At the same time, Unilever Vietnam's value chain also switched to using 100% electric forklifts at distribution centers, contributing to reducing nearly 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions by the end of 2021 compared to 2020.
In addition to focusing on reducing greenhouse gases, Unilever is also using innovative methods to grow forests, aiming to achieve carbon positive. Specifically, through the use of drones, Unilever’s OMO brand can carry and drop thousands of seed balls into national parks and nature reserves. This method increases the germination rate of precious seeds by up to 50%, increases the productivity of rangers by 20 times, and brings seeds to many dangerous areas inside the deep forest, difficult to access by traditional means.
Solving plastic pollution through packaging innovation
Technology and innovation are key to Unilever Vietnam in addressing barriers to promoting the use of recycled plastics in packaging production, contributing to reducing virgin plastics and enhancing the plastic cycle. This is the core point in solving plastic pollution.
First, the recyclability of packaging is developed through technology. Once the recyclability is improved, the packaging after use still meets the standards for further recycling.
Next, Unilever Vietnam reduces unnecessary excess plastic in packaging by using technology to innovate packaging design, improve performance and help reduce weight.
At the same time, technology - innovation facilitates the development and improvement of new measurements and analytical methods, allowing businesses to check and ensure the quality of packaging produced from recycled plastic.
In addition to the above aspects, Unilever is also a pioneer in digital transformation of the supply chain to better serve customers and develop human resources.
Recently, the enterprise received the “Top Industry 4.0 Enterprise” award at the “Top Industry 4.0 Vietnam - Industrie 4.0 Awards” program chaired by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Sharing about the award, Mr. Pham Manh Tri, Vice President in charge of Supply Chain at Unilever Vietnam, emphasized, “This is also the motivation for us to continue to develop and further promote the digitalization journey, completing the goal of smart factories and supply chains, contributing to the National Digital Transformation Program launched by the Prime Minister”.
