On September 25, a leader of Vinh Tan Ward People's Committee (Vinh City, Nghe An) said that the ward police are continuing to clarify the case of a newborn baby found floating in a styrofoam box on Vinh River.

Previously, at around 4:30 p.m. on September 24, people discovered a woman putting a newborn baby in a styrofoam box and letting it float on the Vinh River, through Tan Hoa block (Vinh Tan ward).

After discovering the baby, people quickly rescued the baby and took him to a medical facility. After examination, the baby weighed 2.3 kg, had normal vital functions but showed signs of jaundice.

Upon receiving the report, Vinh Tan Ward Police conducted verification and clarified that the two women involved were Ms. Ph. (29 years old, from Hung Nghia Commune, Hung Nguyen District) and her biological mother, Ms. N. (65 years old). The baby boy left in the styrofoam box was Ms. Ph.'s child, only 4 days old.

The leader of Vinh Tan ward added: "The mother said that due to difficult family circumstances, she was worried that her sick child would not be able to be raised, so she had suicidal thoughts. After being rescued safely, the child was taken to Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for care and treatment."

Regarding the incident, a leader of the People's Committee of Hung Nghia commune (Hung Nguyen district) confirmed that Ms. Ph. got married and registered her household in Trung Phuc Cuong commune (Nam Dan district), and her family's circumstances were quite difficult.
