Vietnam U23 will have 2 friendly matches with Tajikistan U23 on March 20 and 23 to prepare for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. Notably, assistant Moulay Lahsen will lead Vietnam U23 in these 2 matches, as coach Philippe Troussier is busy with the Vietnam national team participating in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Moulay Lahsen is Moroccan and has a close relationship with coach Philippe Troussier, having worked with the French strategist since 2018. The 56-year-old assistant has both AFC and FIFA degrees. In the past, he worked with Rudi Garcia - former coach of AS Roma, Lyon and former teacher of Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr Club.
According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will gather again from March 12 with about 30 players, at the same time the Vietnam national team will prepare for two matches with Indonesia in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. U23 Vietnam will practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until March 16, when they will leave for Tajikistan to play two friendly matches with the host team.
The two friendly matches with U23 Tajikistan are an important "test" for U23 Vietnam before facing U23 Uzbekistan, U23 Kuwait and U23 Malaysia in Group D of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. In this tournament, U23 Tajikistan will be in the same group with U23 Saudi Arabia, U23 Iraq and U23 Thailand.
