With a strong focus on investment in infrastructure, especially seaports, airports, roads, etc., Thaco Chairman Tran Ba Duong believes that Quang Nam province will become the logistics center of the region and the whole country.
At the announcement ceremony of Quang Nam province's planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 on March 16, Mr. Tran Ba Duong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco) - said that he was honored and moved when he was chosen to speak at the announcement ceremony of the planning and groundbreaking of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in 2003. And today (March 16), he continued to speak at the conference announcing the planning of Quang Nam province. Mr. Tran Ba Duong shared that his company's investment in Quang Nam was fateful because at that time his company was a very small enterprise that was called to the province. Chu Lai Open Economic Zone at that time was just a project that carried more of Quang Nam's aspiration to escape poverty than of practicality.Mr. Tran Ba Duong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Photo: Cong Binh).
Mr. Duong said he was very happy that after more than 20 years, he had contributed to making Chu Lai Open Economic Zone as successful as it is today. According to Mr. Tran Ba Duong, developing the automobile industry, mechanical engineering, supporting industries in the production of pharmaceuticals, agriculture and forestry; especially the container logistics center in Quang Nam in particular and the Central Highlands in general are all highly feasible. "We are committed to being very determined to soon concretize the provincial planning contents related to Thaco," Mr. Duong shared. Mr. Tran Ba Duong said that in Quang Nam, logistics costs are 20% higher than in the two ends of the country and this is the key point that must be addressed.Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Thaco leaders visit Chu Lai port (Photo: Cong Binh).
"By chance, we have developed large-scale agricultural production in Laos, Cambodia and the Central Highlands through the acquisition of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Company," said Thaco Chairman. By the end of this year, his company will have about 1,000 tons of fresh fruit per day for export and about 2,000 tons per day in 2025. On average, there are 100-200 containers exported per day. Regarding logistics development, Mr. Tran Ba Duong said that he is researching the Cua Lo route according to the planning of Quang Nam province, with an investment capital of about 6,500 billion VND. The company will research to open a short route, investing in the form of BOT focusing on the transportation route from southern Laos, northern Cambodia and the Central Highlands to Chu Lai.After expansion, Chu Lai port can receive 50,000-ton ships (Photo: Binh An).
"Thus, the reality of the planning announced today, with a vision to 2030 of forming a logistics center in the Central region, I think is very feasible, if the Cua Lo route is invested and completed soon. We have high expectations for the logistics center. Regarding the logistics center planning, I think we can do it," Mr. Duong stated. At the ceremony to announce the planning of Quang Nam province for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province granted the decision approving the investment policy for the project to expand and upgrade Chu Lai port, in Tam Hiep port area with a total investment of nearly 1,590 billion VND. Thaco Group was granted investment registration certificates for 7 projects in the industrial sector, with a total capital of more than 3,940 billion VND. The People's Committee of Quang Nam province also granted the decision approving the investment policy for 13 projects with a total capital of more than 8,150 billion VND and 2 projects with investment location agreements with a total capital of more than 10,340 billion VND.
