After the 2023 World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team wants to have more tickets, need more cooperation and efforts, and the domestic tournament needs to be raised to a higher level.

Domestic league needs to be raised to a new level

A national football team that wants to be strong and have depth needs a professional and systematic national tournament system. Participating clubs must be strong and even to create competition, from which the best factors can be selected to serve the national team.

The sad reality of Vietnamese women's football over the past many years is that only a few localities still have clubs participating in the national tournament.

In the 2022 season, there are only 5 localities with football teams participating in the tournament: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh and Ha Nam, so Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi "established" additional teams Ho Chi Minh City II and Hanoi II to make the tournament "more exciting", while the quality of the players is completely inferior to the remaining teams.

A quick calculation shows that with only 7 teams participating in the national tournament, the whole country has about 200-300 female players. If we also count the U.19 and U.16 tournaments, it would be somewhere around 500-600 players, a number too small to screen and select a truly quality and strong national team.

A positive sign recently is that we have had an additional National Cup playground for female players to have more tournaments to compete.

At the same time, the U.19 and U.16 women's tournaments have also been organized to prepare the next generation of players for the clubs, but they are only limited to the above localities and have not received widespread attention.

The 2023 World Cup is considered a boost to help Vietnamese women's football receive more attention from sponsors and benefactors.

From those resources, expectations for a national championship will be raised, the quality of players' lives will be given more attention and improved to stabilize training and competition.

Need cooperation

To prepare for the 2023 World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team has had many training trips abroad, competing with the world's top opponents.

Of course, such training trips are very useful for Vietnamese football, as we will learn a lot from developed football backgrounds, about techniques and tactics, or building and organizing a competition system...

Looking at the 2023 World Cup, the resilience and courage of Huynh Nhu and her teammates are not enough. We can see the huge gap in level and class with our opponents, something that cannot be changed overnight, but requires a plan, a long-term strategy for Vietnamese women's football, to be able to aim for the 2nd, 3rd World Cup...

As mentioned above, the first thing to do is to "upgrade" the National Championship as well as youth tournaments, and at the same time pay more attention to youth training and talent search...

Next, taking advantage of resources such as overseas Vietnamese players, players of Vietnamese origin... VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan also emphasized that these players who have the desire and aspiration to wear the Vietnamese women's team jersey will also be given the best conditions to contribute to the flag.

Another issue that Coach Mai Duc Chung has mentioned is how to improve height and physical strength. Therefore, nutrition also needs special attention to help our female players develop in stature, avoiding being at a disadvantage compared to opponents with better physiques.

Creating conditions for players, especially young players, to compete abroad is also a strategy that is being paid attention to. Playing in developed football countries will form a mindset and improve professional skills so that players can develop top-level football.

In short, Vietnamese women's football needs a truly quality domestic tournament, and at the same time a long-term development strategy with a vision so that the 2023 World Cup is not our final limit, but also the next World Cups...
