According to the reporter of Giao thong Newspaper, on the days before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, the project of connecting the Ho Chi Minh road from the East branch to the West branch in Quang Tri province has basically completed the construction of the roadbed from Km0-Km10.
On this 10km section, contractors have completed 43/57 culverts; dug and filled 518,100/631,095 m3 of roadbed, reaching 82.1%.
For the bridge section, the construction of Km25+300 DT571 bridge has been completed.
At the same time, the 4 bridges at Km4+252, Km7+112, Km7+497 and Km9+610 have been basically completed; the Km4+736 bridge has completed 12/12 bored piles, and is constructing piers T1, T2, T3, T4 and abutments M1, M2.
According to the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province (project investor), currently, the last 5km section of the project's phase 1 route, the Prime Minister has agreed in principle to change the purpose of forest use to another purpose, the Department of Transport is actively coordinating with related units to complete the procedures according to regulations to hand over the site to the construction unit.
The road project connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway East branch with the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch is being constructed in a mountainous area, so it often encounters unfavorable weather conditions such as rain and floods, which affects the construction, especially the excavation and filling of the roadbed.
In addition, the difficult route for transporting materials and equipment to the construction site has also limited the progress of the project.
However, with the efforts of the project implementing units, the construction volume has so far reached about 41% of the contract (70.2/171.92 billion VND). The total capital allocated and disbursed to date is more than 150.7 billion VND, of which 35 billion VND in 2023, reaching 100% of the 2023 plan.
Currently, in addition to coordinating with relevant departments to convert forest land to other purposes to hand over the final 5km of the route, the Department of Transport requires units to immediately after the Lunar New Year 2024 to focus on machinery, human resources, and equipment to deploy construction and complete the project before August 2024.
The Department of Transport continues to study and propose investment solutions for the construction of phase 2 for the final 6.4km section of the road project connecting Ho Chi Minh Road, East Branch, with Ho Chi Minh Road, West Branch, to connect the entire route.
The project of connecting the East branch of Ho Chi Minh road with the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road (phase 1) was approved by the People's Council of Quang Tri province in Resolution No. 11 dated March 10, 2021 and Resolution No. 59 dated May 12, 2021. The project has a total route length of about 21.3km, a total investment of more than 229.1 billion VND, and an implementation schedule of 2021 - 2024.
According to the design, the project connecting from Vinh O mountainous commune (Vinh Linh district) to Huong Lap commune (Huong Hoa district) is a grade V mountainous road, with a 6.5m wide roadbed, 3.5m wide road surface, and 1.5m wide sidewalks on each side; for the bridge project built with a planning scale (grade IV mountainous area), the cross-section is 7.5m wide.
The project, when completed, will break the monopoly of the Ho Chi Minh Trail West branch passing through the northwestern communes of Quang Tri province; serving rescue and relief work when storms and floods occur. This will also be a vital horizontal traffic route from the East to the West of Quang Tri province, connecting the coastal route with the vertical axes of National Highway 1, Van Ninh - Cam Lo Expressway, Ho Chi Minh Trail East - West branches and Ta Rung border gate, promoting socio-economic development, economic development, trade and tourism between Vietnam and Laos.
The replacement of the temporary steel bridge for the spillway at Km 25+300 DT 571 below the first section of the project that was swept away by flood, the People's Council of Quang Tri province has approved the adjustment of the road project connecting the East branch of Ho Chi Minh road with the West branch. Accordingly, the total length of the project route is 15km and the bridge at Km 25+300 DT 571 with a bridge length of about 110m, the width of the bridge ensures the planning scale (level IV mountainous area) and the above 15km section, mainly belongs to the extremely difficult mountainous commune of Vinh O in Vinh Linh district.
The bridge at Km25+300 on DT571 route is the only route from the center of Vinh O mountainous commune to Ho Chi Minh road, East branch, passing through Ben Quan town and National Highway 1, center of Ho Xa district (Vinh Linh district).
The leader of Vinh O Commune People's Committee said that before, it took 3 hours to walk from the commune center to village 9, the last village of Vinh O Commune. Now, the road has basically been completed and can be traveled by motorbike and only takes about 30 minutes. This is a road that facilitates people's travel, goods exchange and socio-economic development, so the local government and people are very excited.
