The monument cluster on the theme of artillery battlefield and Hero Dang Ba Hat on the hilltop marking the history of the 37mm anti-aircraft artillery company, in the battle more than 50 years ago, is an outdoor art work that impresses many tourists when coming to Quang Ninh.

The author of this monument is sculptor Pham Van Hang, who has many famous sculptures, highly appreciated by art critics and widely accepted by the public nationwide. The impressive highlight of the Dang Ba Hat monument is the stylized images created from bomb fragments. According to sculptor Pham Van Hang, every small detail of the monument cluster contains profound meanings. Those are the shells of exploded bombs placed at the foot of the monument, shaped into flowers, called "victory flowers".
On the bodies of the self-defense soldiers, there are camouflage leaves in the shape of hearts, representing that they fought not only with weapons but also with passionate hearts of patriotism. Those hearts are made of glass to always emit light when the sun shines on them. The portrait of the main character, Hero Dang Ba Hat, is made of stone, facing upwards, with the shape of wearing a miner's hat, exuding the unmistakable spirit of a soldier - worker.
The project is located at the Bai Chay bridgehead (Hon Gai side), where the mine self-defense soldier Dang Ba Hat heroically sacrificed his life and was later posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. Therefore, the sculptor made the statue of hero Dang Ba Hat with an epic view, not to put bombs and war on it. What is evidence of war will be in the museum below.
"As for the monument, it only has an artistic image. But in the end, what makes victory, what decides is still patriotism, not guns and bullets. Therefore, I built the image of Hero Dang Ba Hat dedicating his heart to the Fatherland. Dang Ba Hat fought with a patriotic heart, from that patriotism he advanced and won. After victory, he joyfully celebrated in peace. The gun butts are too familiar, I will not describe them anymore. I focus on the symbol of the heart and the light from patriotism..." - sculptor Pham Van Hang explained.
With this work, sculptor Pham Van Hang wants to change the way of looking at things, instead of the familiar propaganda, for the tourist city of Ha Long, it must do something new, something strange in a new way to attract tourists. That new thing is to look at war but not only see the tragedy, the pain. The face of war is no longer as scary as it is often seen.
“Under the light of patriotism, let us move forward to dedicate our hearts to the Fatherland. Therefore, I designed the hearts to turn into victory flowers, into triumphant songs. Not only the miners singing triumphant songs, I also built the image of the ethnic people of Quang Ninh sharing the joy of victory. I designed those hearts out of glass so that they always glow in the sunlight” - sculptor Pham Van Hang shared.

To create this special work, sculptor Pham Van Hang had to travel far and wide to find a 3m high, 8m long stone, which he had to select and construct in Ba Ria - Vung Tau for many days. Then, he used 2 cranes to lift it onto a large truck and transported it for 12 days to Ha Long. Not to mention some other stages of construction in Binh Duong and Da Nang.
After completing the construction in many localities, the group of authors transported each part to Ha Long for assembly. In addition to stone and old bomb shells, the sculptor also used stainless steel for the work, because this is a new, beautiful, and contemporary material.
