Tuan Cry - the author of the song Bac Bling affirmed that he respects the effort, money and passion that Hoa Minzy spent to achieve the success of the MV "Bac Bling".
North Bling is an impressive song in Hoa Minzy's career. Released on March 1, the MV quickly attracted public attention and achieved impressive results: Reaching more than 1 million views after 10 hours, topping music charts such as iTunes Vietnam, Apple Music Vietnam and Lan Song Xanh. In addition, North Bling also topped the charts in Australia, Singapore and South Korea.
Is the author of North Bling Also participating in some segments of the MV, Tuan Cry said that when his product was successful, he was both happy and under a lot of pressure.
- After the song "Bac Bling" became a hit, as the author of the song and also contributing his voice in the MV, how has Tuan Cry's life changed?
More than ten days have passed, my emotions have also stabilized. The first week when the MV was released and received, I was really nervous. But honestly, when my product is loved like that, I am both happy and pressured.
This was the first project of the year and it exploded beyond expectations, making me nervous about the next products. But now everything is back to normal, I no longer feel "unsteady on my feet".
- It is known that your mother also pursues a musical career and has a certain influence on you. How did she and her relatives react to the resounding success of Bac Bling?
My mother was very happy, and my neighbors in the countryside also came to visit and congratulate me. Before, I worked in music but had no clear achievements, people only knew that I made content on YouTube.
But with the success of Bac Bling , my mother is more proud because she finally sees her son having concrete results after many years of pursuing "something". Before, my mother was very worried, and people around kept asking: "Tuan is in his thirties, what is he doing that he keeps going and coming back?" But now my mother is more at ease.
- Many people think that after a famous project, artists will change their lives immediately. But Tuan Cry only mentioned "psychological stability"?
I know people often think that artists will earn a lot of money after each successful project, but in reality, that is not the case. This is a project made with all our heart, based on the love and respect for our homeland of each member of the team, so we do it very carefully, investing heavily in every smallest step of the MV.
You don't know, the cost of producing a MV is beyond imagination. I myself am just a small link in the production team, so there is no way to "change my life" with just one successful MV. To truly "change my life", I need more time and effort.
Economically, my life has not changed, but after the MV Bac Bling, my personal image has received more attention, helping me open up many opportunities in the future and I really appreciate that.
- Before being known for the role of bringing Hoa Minzy to "make waves" on the music charts, you had a difficult time making a living, can you share more?
It is true that I have done many jobs to make ends meet. I used to work as a waiter in a restaurant, sing in a tea room, compose music, and then sell wood in Dong Ky. When the wood business slowed down, I switched to selling chicken eggs in the northern provinces.
At that time, my daily salary was only about 200,000-250,000, just enough to cover my living expenses. I considered it a period of “short-term gain to support long-term” so that I could continue to pursue my passion for music.
- Did those years of struggling to make a living ever make you want to give up and leave the music market?
Yes. When I decided to get married at the age of 29, I thought it was the "dead end" of my art. People often say that artists should not get married early to devote all their mind to creativity.
So when I got married, I also decided to focus on taking care of my family and find another stable job. As a man in the family, I wanted to shoulder my responsibilities.
But luckily, when I got married, my wife was very understanding of my passion. She encouraged me to pursue what I loved, supported my passion, and became a strong supporter for me.
- With such a strong support, did it take you a long time to continue to "let loose" with music?
I spent nearly 2 years “hiding” because I wanted to change direction and not pursue music anymore. But after being encouraged and motivated by my wife, I started to come back and become more serious about my path.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent a lot of time learning about Quan Ho and the cultural heritage of the Kinh Bac region. That was the period when I did not compose, but focused on researching and cultivating to shape my own style. When I felt that the research had "soaked" into me, I started composing.
- You once said you wanted to focus on taking care of your family, but then you still pursued composing. How did you balance your responsibilities as a family man with your passion for music?
I decided that if I wanted to pursue my passion, I still had to fulfill my obligations to my family and make everyone feel secure about me first. So I decided to do both at the same time: be a family man and make music.
During the day, Tuan still works other jobs to ensure the family's finances, and only focuses on music at night and on his days off. Maintaining that "balance" helps my family feel secure and I myself do not feel financial pressure.
During this time, I still had enough income to spend, take care of my wife and children, give gifts to my mother and wife on special occasions, and as for music, I still quietly pursued it until I achieved certain results.
- You often mention that your relatives are worried and uneasy about you, why is that?
I know that if I just wander around, without a specific job and no financial security, my family will worry. I myself have been wondering about the path I have chosen, and there are too many opinions around me advising me to give up music. So it is understandable that my family is not confident about me and the path I have chosen. When loved ones around me are worried and insecure, it will certainly have a significant impact on my own direction.
But after many years, with the success of North Bling and other projects, I can confidently say that I am on the right track. North Bling and previous works such as Picky can be considered the sweet fruit after a long time of "spinning silk" to make a cocoon. Now, the silkworm that is me can break out of the cocoon and confidently step out in front of everyone.
- In the Vietnamese music industry, there are many singers and musicians who suddenly became famous after a song, but then struggled to overcome their own shadow. Are you worried that you will fall into a similar situation?
Yes, I shared from the beginning that when North Bling Receiving enthusiastic love from the audience, I am not only happy and joyful but also very pressured. Pressured because in 2025 I still cherish many more projects, and the first project "released" has been such a strong success, the following projects will be very difficult to "surpass myself".
But I understand that for a music product to be successful, it depends on many factors, not just the buzz of the project that just caused a stir.
To have a music product considered good, it is also necessary to find the right person, to have all the right conditions such as the release time, even whether the filming and editing process is smooth or not...
But that pressure is also an interesting point for me to be serious and gradually improve myself on the path of pursuing my passion. When the first project of 2025 has been loved by everyone like that, I have to be more responsible, have to double, triple the effort for the following projects so as not to disappoint the audience.
Thank you for sharing this.
