The first Vietnamese university listed in the QS World University Rankings by subject 2025

With this result, Van Lang University is ranked among 50 prestigious universities worldwide such as: Australian National University; Chulalongkorn University (Thailand); Newcastle University (Australia); Peking University; Tokyo University (Japan); Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU); Colombia National University; Korea University; Amsterdam School of the Arts (Netherlands)... in Design - Art.

The QS World University Rankings by subject 2025 evaluated 55 training fields of 5,203 universities from 148 countries. In the field of Performing Arts, only 150 schools were ranked out of 1,812 surveyed educational institutions. In the field of Design, this number was 260 out of 2,760 schools. Van Lang University is the only representative of Vietnam recognized in these two fields.

Van Lang University has become the country’s sole representative in the QS World University Rankings by subject 2025, affirming its leading position in the field of art education in Vietnam. This recognition is the result of continuous efforts to improve the quality of teaching and research, especially in the fields of art and design.

Over the past two decades, the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design of VLU has continuously innovated its training programs, expanded international cooperation and applied creativity into practice. In the field of Performing Arts, the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design currently offers seven programs from bachelor to master's level, including majors such as Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Applied Arts (master's degree), and Art Theory and Application (master's degree). The field of Art & Design includes the majors of Interior Design, Industrial Design (Design Design) and Digital Art Design.

The AUN-QA certification for Graphic Design in 2022 also demonstrates the Faculty’s commitment to sustainable development and meeting international standards. The position in the top 100 design schools in the world according to the recent QS Ranking is also evidence of the Faculty’s steadfast journey and continuous efforts in improving the quality of education and creativity.

The Faculty of Fine Arts & Design has been constantly innovating, with the deep integration of aspects of art & design into the training program to keep up with global trends. The highlight is the inclusion of performance art in design projects, helping students not only develop creative ideas but also have the ability to execute artworks in real environments.

According to Master. Artist Phan Quan Dung - Head of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design, “Performance art is not simply a supplementary element, but an important educational method, helping students clearly identify functional and artistic elements in the design system. This is the strategic direction of the Faculty, creating a difference in training and opening up opportunities to access modern design thinking in the world.”

In addition, international cooperation and business connections also contribute to the achievements of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design. With established partnerships with more than 30 leading universities and technology enterprises such as Handong, Kookmin, Sunmoon and Konkuk in Korea and other countries. Through these collaborations, students are exposed to advanced design trends, participate in international seminars and exhibitions, and have the opportunity to interact with leading experts in the industry. In addition, participating in community projects in Vietnam and exhibiting projects in Korea have created conditions for students to affirm their talents in the international market.

With the orientation of training in applied design following the development trend of the world design industry, the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design of Van Lang University has pioneered in introducing topics of exploiting traditional national capital and community design into the training program for many years. The simultaneous combination of creativity and cultural identity has helped the Faculty's students leave their mark in many fields and achieve many high awards in prestigious international competitions.

In addition, the faculty also includes subjects on traditional culture and national heritage in the curriculum, helping students access and spread artistic values ​​to the community.

The Design industry not only creates products but also aims at social impact and changing the living environment. Typically, in Fashion Design, students are oriented to develop sustainable fashion, connect with remote areas, help people access textile art, preserve and promote cultural heritage. Thanks to that, Van Lang students are not only designers but also value creators, spreading sustainable creativity.

In addition, the faculty also incorporates traditional cultural content into the curriculum, helping students not only access but also spread artistic values ​​to the community. The training program aims to create design products with positive social impacts, from sustainable fashion to cultural heritage conservation projects.

With the mission of training comprehensive learners, bringing positive values, and inspiring the community, the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design of Van Lang University regularly hosts many large-scale art events in Vietnam, aiming at academic exchanges in the fields of design, fine arts, and design trends among professionals and art lovers.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Van Lang University and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of the university. Also in this special academic year, Van Lang University was chosen to host ISMA 2025, an international event on art and design, an event that is a testament to the sustainable development of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design of VLU in the media and art scene in Vietnam.

The QS World University Rankings by subject 2025 is a milestone demonstrating the maturity and sustainable development of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Design, contributing to affirming the position and educational quality of Van Lang University on the world university map.
