Preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA) show that in September 2023, Vietnam exported 16,630 tons of pepper of all kinds (of which, black pepper reached 14,832 tons and white pepper reached 1,798 tons).

Total pepper export turnover reached 62 million USD (black pepper reached 52.9 million USD, white pepper reached 9.1 million USD), down 15.5% in turnover compared to the previous month.
The average export price of black pepper in September 2023 reached 3,687 USD/ton, an increase of 54 USD, and that of white pepper reached 5,157 USD/ton, a decrease of 28 USD compared to August 2023.
Phuc Sinh rose to become the leading exporting enterprise in September with 1,389 tons, up 28.1% compared to the previous month and accounting for 8.4% of Vietnam's pepper export market share. Next are Olam Vietnam with 1,332 tons; Nedspice Vietnam with 1,313 tons; Tran Chau with 1,030 tons...
The United States continued to be the main export market for Vietnamese pepper in September, reaching 3,842 tons, down 12.2% compared to the previous month. Next were the Chinese markets with 2,193 tons, up 49.7%; India with 992 tons, down 50.1%....
In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam exported 204,385 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 183,475 tons and white pepper reached 20,910 tons.
Total export turnover reached 678.1 million USD, of which black pepper reached 578.2 million USD, white pepper reached 99.9 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2022, export volume increased by 15.3%, equivalent to 27,164 tons, however, export turnover decreased by 13.4%, equivalent to a decrease of 104.5 million USD.
The average export price of black pepper in the first 9 months of 2023 reached 3,539 USD/ton, white pepper reached 5,068 USD/ton, down 15.3% for black pepper and 14.2% for white pepper respectively compared to the same period in 2022.
Asia is the main export market of Vietnamese pepper in the first 9 months of 2023, accounting for 55.9%, reaching 114,343 tons, up 39.9% over the same period last year, of which China is the leader with 55,985 tons, accounting for 27.4% market share and up 373.6% over the same period.
Next are the UAE markets with 9,327 tons, down 30.1%; India with 9,238 tons, down 18.5%; Philippines with 6,020 tons, up 24.7%...
The United States is the second largest export market for Vietnamese pepper, reaching 37,431 tons, accounting for 18.3%, however, compared to the same period last year, imports from Vietnam decreased by 9.1%. Overall, imports from the Americas region decreased by 7.5%.
Exports to the European region accounted for 18.6% and compared to the same period, the export volume to this region decreased by 7.1%, of which, exports to Germany decreased by 14.3%, reaching 6,828 tons; the Netherlands decreased by 9%, reaching 5,958 tons; Russia decreased by 4%, reaching 4,064 tons; the UK decreased by 10.2%, reaching 3,685 tons...
Notably, pepper exports to Türkiye increased by 70.8%, reaching 3,495 tons, and to France increased by 31.4%, reaching 2,849 tons.
Pepper exports to Africa increased by 9.3%, of which exports to Egypt increased by 43.8%, reaching 3,354 tons; Senegal increased by 32.4%, reaching 1,787 tons and to South Africa reached 1,761 tons, up 2%.
Enterprises leading the list of pepper exporters in the first 9 months of 2023 include: Nedspice reached 13,541 tons, up 1%; Olam Vietnam reached 13,408 tons, down 37.3%; Tran Chau reached 13,250 tons, down 37.1% and Phuc Sinh reached 11,607 tons, down 1.1%...
The main white pepper exporting enterprises include: Nedspice Vietnam, Olam Vietnam, Pearl Group, Lien Thanh and Phuc Sinh. The main white pepper consuming markets: United States, China, Germany, Netherlands, Thailand...
Currently, the business sector in VPA accounts for 63.6% of total exports.
According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), output from producing countries such as Brazil, Indonesia and India are all forecast to decrease compared to 2022. However, the world economy is facing difficulties, inflation remains high, and people tighten spending, which are the reasons why major economies are reducing pepper imports.
In the domestic market, the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecasts that pepper exports will remain low due to the lack of abundant domestic supply and the lack of demand in the US and EU markets.
Currently, the amount of pepper exported from Vietnam has run out. In the last months of this year, businesses will export from imported goods and previous inventories.
