According to the latest report issued by the General Statistics Office on the morning of March 6, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first two months of 2025 increased by 9.4%.
The General Statistics Office pointed out that the high domestic consumption demand during the Lunar New Year holiday along with the strong recovery of tourism has contributed positively to the growth of the trade and service sector.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer services revenue at current prices in February 2025 were estimated at VND561.7 trillion, down 2.5% from the previous month and up 9.4% year-on-year. Notably, tourism increased by 17.3% due to the high increase in the number of international visitors to Vietnam and Vietnamese tourists traveling abroad compared to the same period last year.

In the first two months of 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices is estimated at VND 1,137.5 trillion, up 9.4% over the same period last year (the same period in 2024 increased by 8.4%), if excluding price factors, it increased by 6.2% (the same period in 2024 increased by 5.3%).
In the total, retail sales of goods in the first two months of 2025 are estimated at VND 878.4 trillion, accounting for 77.2% of the total and increasing by 8.7% over the same period last year.
Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at VND131.1 trillion, accounting for 11.5% of the total and increasing by 12.5% over the same period last year.
Tourism revenue in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at 14.1 trillion VND, accounting for 1.3% of the total and increasing by 16.4% over the same period last year.
Tourism was a bright spot in the first two months of the year when tourism revenue in the first two months of 2025 of some localities was as follows: Hue increased by 31.5%; Quang Ninh increased by 21.3%; Binh Duong increased by 17.1%; Da Nang increased by 16.6%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 13.2%; Hanoi increased by 12.2%.
Revenue from other services in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at VND 113.9 trillion, accounting for 10.0% of the total and increasing by 10.2% over the same period last year.
In 2025, the Government set a target of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increasing by 12%. Previously, in an interview with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development - Ministry of Industry and Trade said that, fully aware of market developments, since the last months of 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proactively advised the Prime Minister to issue Directive No. 29/CT-TTg dated August 27, 2024, directing ministries, branches, localities, industry associations and enterprises to focus on implementing key tasks and solutions to stimulate consumption, support production and business and develop the domestic market.
On that basis, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 2888/QD-BCT dated November 1, 2024, setting out a specific implementation plan to implement the Prime Minister's Directive, requiring agencies, units, organizations and enterprises in the industry and trade sector to coordinate to seriously implement and ensure effectiveness.
In addition, to respond to new market developments, the Ministry of Industry and Trade promptly issued Official Dispatch No. 9834/CD-BCT dated December 4, 2024, requesting units to implement specific tasks to stimulate consumption and develop the domestic market.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade identified digital transformation in retail and supply chain optimization as the two most important pillars to help achieve the 12% growth target in 2025. |
