The Indonesian national team will gather to prepare for a friendly match against Turkmenistan on September 8 in Jakarta. 24 players have been called up, with most of them being key players from clubs in the Indonesian national championship.
Against the team ranked 138th in the world, who had just lost heavily to Malaysia in the Asian Cup qualifiers not long ago, Indonesia was expected to win.
But to win, coach Shin Tae-yong and his assistants believe that his players need to change their attitude and mindset when playing football, because according to this coach, at their home team, many Indonesian players have the mindset of "giving themselves the right to play if they want, or walk if they want".
Coach Shin Tae-yong wants the players to try harder.
The message was conveyed by his assistant, Nova Arianto. The coach said: “ Players must be willing to work hard for their team. They need to run a lot. Looking at Indonesian players, it seems they often seek comfort when playing for their clubs. If they want to run, then run. If they feel tired, then walk.
That way of playing prevents players from reaching their full potential. The coaching staff thinks they have to be willing to challenge themselves to improve their abilities, they have to find their limits instead of just playing like that.”
According to assistant Arianto, the members of the Indonesian U23 team have learned a lot from Shin Tae-yong when competing in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, especially the fighting spirit. But the coaching staff is worried that when they return to their home clubs, they will lose their positions.
“What we worry about is that when players return to the club, they often lose their minds. Try your best. Don’t forget to keep a good attitude,” Mr. Arianto advised.
