Vietnam team welcomes new player

Today (March 10), the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially signed contracts with two Korean assistant coaches, thereby strengthening the coaching staff of the Vietnam national team and U.22 Vietnam.

Specifically, Coach Lee Jung-soo (born January 8, 1980) will take on the role of assistant coach of the Vietnam national team and Vietnam U.22 team. Mr. Lee Jung-soo holds an AFC A license and has many years of experience in playing and coaching at the highest level.

Assistant Lee Jung-soo joins Vietnam national team coaching staff

During his football career, Mr. Lee Jung-soo played for the Korean national team from 2008 to 2013, played 54 matches, scored 5 goals, including 2 important goals at the 2010 World Cup.

At the club level, Mr. Lee Jung-soo won the 2011 AFC Champions League with Al-Sadd. After retiring, he moved into coaching, working as an assistant at Ho Chi Minh City Club, with Suwon FC and Dongguk University in Korea.

Meanwhile, assistant Lee Woon-jae (born April 26, 1973) will continue to work with the Vietnam national team and U.22 Vietnam as a goalkeeper coach. Mr. Lee Woon-jae holds an AFC Level 2 goalkeeper coach license and an AFC A coach license.

During his illustrious career, Mr. Lee Woon-jae attended the World Cup 4 times (1994, 2002, 2006, 2010), making a great contribution to helping the Korean team reach the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

Mr. Lee Woon-jae was with the Vietnamese team to win the AFF Cup 2024.

At the club level, Mr. Lee Woon-jae won 4 K-League championships with Suwon Samsung Bluewings. After retiring, Mr. Lee Woon-jae worked as a goalkeeper coach at Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and the U.23 Korea team before joining the Vietnam national team and contributing to the journey to win the AFF Cup 2024.

1 year contract

Speaking at the ceremony, both assistant coaches Lee Jung-soo and Lee Woon-jae expressed their honor to join the coaching staff of the Vietnam national team and U.23 Vietnam.

With their experience in competition and coaching, assistant coaches Lee Jung-soo and Lee Woon-jae promised to do their best to support coach Kim Sang-sik, contributing to helping the Vietnamese team achieve good results in the future.

The contract of both coaches lasts for 1 year, effective from March 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. This addition is expected to bring positive changes, helping the Vietnam national team and U.23 Vietnam to have the best preparation for important tournaments, first of all the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers and SEA Games 33.

The two coaches will start working during the Vietnam national team's March training session, aiming for a friendly match against Cambodia (March 19) and the opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers against Laos (March 25).
