After 20 years of construction, many items at the 400-hectare Ho Chi Minh City Historical - Cultural Park remain "immobile".
Ho Chi Minh City Historical - Cultural Park, Long Binh Ward, Thu Duc City, has an area of over 400 hectares, built on the highest hill of Ho Chi Minh City. This park is expected to become a large-scale project, symbolizing culture - history.
Although it was started in 1992, the project has not yet been completed according to the original plan.
According to Dan Viet reporters, many items of the project have not been completed yet. Next to the Hung Kings Memorial Temple is a cemetery that has not been relocated.
The road from the main gate to the Hung Kings memorial site is only paved for a short distance, the rest is jagged rocks, making it difficult for people to travel.
The National Historical - Cultural Park Project has 27 component projects, of which 9 have been implemented and one is being implemented under the PPP (public-private partnership) model. A total of 2 projects have been completed and put into use, namely the Southern Ring Road project and the Nguyen Huu Canh Temple.
According to the original plan, the park had four functional areas according to each historical period. However, after more than 20 years, only the Hung Kings Memorial has been completed. Other items have yet to be implemented.
Although it has taken shape, the stadium near the Hung Kings Memorial is deserted, with no events taking place here.
In order to find optimal planning solutions, contributing to the effective exploitation of land funds, promoting the cultural and historical values of the park, and at the same time creating a community living space suitable for practical needs, recently, the Department of Planning and Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City organized an international competition, inviting design consultants to participate with the theme "Planning ideas for the National Historical - Cultural Park".
According to the general planning orientation of Thu Duc City to 2040, the Historical - Cultural Park of Ethnic Groups belongs to the northeastern urban subdivision of Thu Duc City, and is also the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City, connecting with urban and industrial areas in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province. With this special location, the Historical - Cultural Park of Ethnic Groups is planned with the main functions of historical and cultural park, thematic park, eco-tourism, creating a complex of green cultural space, entertainment for the community, potentially bringing new driving force to the urban subdivision.
