On the afternoon of January 8, LENOM Company (address in Dien Bien Phu, Ward 25, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) announced that it had filed a lawsuit against First Face Company Limited and MK Productions Company to the People's Court of District 5 (Ho Chi Minh City) for violating the copyright of the contest.
LENOM confirmed that they are the official and exclusive organizer of Miss Global 2023. The parent company of the contest (Miss Global Organization, headquartered in the US) has issued a license for LENOM to host the contest for 6 years, from 2023 to 2028.
Accordingly, any unit organizing activities related to the contest in Vietnam must have the consent of LENOM.
LENOM said that on October 6, 2022, the Department of Culture and Sports (VH&TT) of Ho Chi Minh City also approved LENOM to organize the Miss Global 2023 contest (Official Dispatch No. 4422/SVHTT-NT dated October 6, 2022).
In December 2022, the Organizing Committee held a press conference to announce the contest in Ho Chi Minh City, introducing supermodel Vu Thu Phuong as a consultant. The event also had the participation of Miss Global 2022 Shane Tormes. The contest is expected to take place in 2023. However, due to some objective reasons, the contest has not been held yet.
At the present time, when the contract between LENOM and Miss Global Organization is still in effect, First Face Company and MK Productions Company suddenly organized activities within the framework of the contest called Miss Global.

According to lawyer Nguyen Quoc Cuong - legal representative of LENOM company, the above action is considered a violation of copyright ownership, infringing on the legal rights and interests of LENOM. The company also lost a large amount of money related to the costs of signing contracts and personnel to implement the project over the past year.
LENOM Company said that before filing the lawsuit, they contacted First Face and MK in many ways such as sending documents, sending emails, and calling but have not received any response. The company also contacted the parent company Miss Global Organization but has not received any response.
On January 5, the People's Court of District 5 confirmed receipt of LENOM's petition. Within 8 days from the date of filing the petition, the petitioner will go to the People's Court of District 5 to receive notification of the petition's processing results.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiff requested the defendant to stop the violations related to the organization of the contest, remove the post containing information related to the contest, and publish a public apology and correction in the newspaper.

On the morning of January 9, the Miss Global Organization (headquartered in the US) - Miss Global Organization (MGO) - spoke out about the scandal.
According to the MGO representative, LENOM violated its obligations and "did not cooperate in good faith" regarding the agreement to host the Miss Global 2023-2028 contest signed between the two parties.
According to MGO, the license granted by the competent authority to LENOM on October 6, 2022 to organize "Miss Global 2023" in Ho Chi Minh City expired around mid-June 2023.
Therefore, MGO has sent a notice of termination of the agreement, terminating the licensing for LENOM to host Miss Global 2023-2028 in Vietnam from August 2023.
Currently, MGO has licensed First Face company to represent MGO, jointly organizing the semi-finals of Miss Global 2023, taking place from January 3, 2024 to January 13, 2024.
MGO affirms that this event is licensed in accordance with the law. The semi-finals in Phu Quoc will be held according to the licensed plan and content, without any delay.
Dan Tri reporter contacted Ms. Nguyen Diep Mai - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province - to learn about the incident.
Ms. Nguyen Diep Mai said that the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province "approved to organize the semi-finals of the Miss Global 2023 contest in Phu Quoc according to regulations". Ms. Mai did not respond to information about the postponement of the contest or the licensing process from First Face company.
Meanwhile, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City has not yet responded to Dan Tri reporter's question about confirming approval to organize Miss Global 2023 for LENOM.
