OCOP products develop strongly
Every year, the number of OCOP products in Yen Bai province that are granted certificates increases rapidly, with 34 products in 2021, up to 67 products, reaching 223% of the assigned target. Up to now, the whole province has 282 OCOP products; including 29 4-star OCOP products and 253 3-star OCOP products.
The food group dominates with 201 products; 21 products belong to the herbal group; the beverage group has 14 products; the handicraft and decoration group has 15 products and the rural tourism service group has 16 products.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Bai province, said that based on the advantages of natural conditions, culture, and production practices of people in rural areas, Yen Bai province has developed OCOP products associated with building a concentrated, stable, and typical agricultural and medicinal material area.
Along with promoting product standardization in line with the advantages and conditions of each locality, Yen Bai province organizes training and capacity building for OCOP subjects, focusing on innovating production organization forms and management skills; creativity in product design, packaging, and labeling; paying attention to intellectual property registration and traceability along the value chain.
A typical example is Tran Yen district, where many concentrated specialized production areas have been clearly formed, linked with the chain, creating high-value products, thanks to which all communes and towns have at least 1 product that meets OCOP standards. The whole district currently has 49 OCOP products; of which, there are 8 4-star OCOP products and 41 3-star OCOP products, all OCOP products of the district have origin traceability stamps, geographical indications; have VietGAP and organic certifications.
Vice Chairman of Tran Yen District People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Le shared that OCOP products are divided into groups associated with the advantages of concentrated raw material areas, typically: 5 cinnamon products associated with a cinnamon growing area of over 20,000 hectares, dry cinnamon bark output of 5,000 tons; 7 tea products associated with a high-quality tea growing area of 1,600 hectares, output of 11,500 tons/year; 6 honey products associated with a fruit growing area with 7,000 hives, for honey output of over 50 tons/year...
In addition, Tran Yen district has mobilized, integrated and effectively used resources from national target programs, resources of OCOP subjects and other legal capital sources to support and create incentive mechanisms in the direction of focusing on developing specialty, key and potential products of each locality; creating conditions for applying cleaner production processes in seed production, care, harvesting and preservation according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.

Not only stopping at developing the quantity of products, Yen Bai province also focuses on improving the quality, increasing the value and brand of OCOP products, paying special attention to improving the production process, meeting food hygiene and safety standards, and traceability.
Many specific support policies have been issued by Yen Bai province, focusing on supporting OCOP subjects in applying technology, creating good, pure breed sources to transfer technical advances into production and expanding product consumption channels.
By the end of 2024, Yen Bai province had 59 specialty and key agricultural products granted intellectual property protection certificates; of which, 10 products had geographical indications; 22 products had certified trademarks and 27 collective trademarks. The whole province had 86 growing area codes, ensuring regulations on stamps, labels, traceability, and product origin...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dong, Vice President of the Farmers' Association of Yen Bai province, said that many OCOP entities have successfully applied advanced science and technology to production to solve challenges and risks in developing OCOP products, which is considered one of the key and central solutions. That not only creates a breakthrough in productivity and quality but also helps OCOP entities overcome seasonality, increase economic efficiency, reduce dependence on weather, and meet quality needs.
Currently, Yen Bai province has widely applied models supporting the application of biotechnology, greenhouse technology, drip irrigation, sensors according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; piloted the construction of automation and digitalization models associated with the "3 reductions, 3 increases" program, cleaner production to gradually popularize and replicate in practice.
Along with rapidly developing the quantity and constantly improving the quality of OCOP products, Yen Bai province supports the expansion of product consumption channels, strengthens trade promotion, and diversifies forms of promotion and introduction to increase added value and bring OCOP products closer to consumers.
Ms. Dong Thi Hien, Director of the Hien Vinh Northwest Agricultural Products Processing Cooperative, Yen Binh District, shared that thanks to the development of the internet, multimedia communication technology, etc., hundreds of OCOP products are promoted, introduced and consumed on many social networking platforms, especially on e-commerce platforms. Thanks to that, the supply-demand connection takes place right from the production stage, information exchange is quick between OCOP subjects and customers, increasing product value and easily expanding the product consumption market.
Up to now, Yen Bai province has nearly 300 agricultural processing facilities bringing about 950 products to e-commerce platforms; of which 100% of OCOP products are available on reputable e-commerce platforms such as Voso.vn, Shopee, Alibaba, Sendo, Postmart.vn, Viettel Post and major supermarkets nationwide such as Go!, Mega, Saigon Co.op, Winmart... creating a large and stable consumer market for OCOP products.
