Jojo Diotay (27 years old, from the Philippines) first came to Vietnam in April 2023 to travel and experience life in the S-shaped country. After that, he decided to move here to work and become an English teacher in Hai Phong.
In addition to his busy daily work, he still wants to spend more time experiencing a new life. At the end of January, Diotay and his friends took a trip to Fansipan peak in Sapa (Lao Cai). And this was also a trip that brought the Filipino guest many special emotions.

The group of friends rented a 15-seat car from Hanoi, traveling about 6 hours to Sapa. They planned to travel during the day and not stay overnight. Because there was no tour guide with them, the group carefully prepared for the trip, from clothing to travel schedule.
"Many people still say that if you are lucky, you can see snow on the top of Fansipan, but I don't really believe it. Vietnam is a country with a sunny and windy tropical climate, so snow is very far away for me," Diotay shared with Dan Tri reporter.
Wearing many thick and warm clothes to cope with the bone-chilling cold of about -3 degrees Celsius, the Filipino tourist still could not imagine that Fansipan would be so cold. When reaching the top at nearly 9am, the whole group was overwhelmed by the scene of white ice and snow covering the tree branches and the ground.

Having seen these images online, Mr. Diotay thought they were photoshopped images, so when he saw them with his own eyes, he felt like he was in a dream.
"I couldn't imagine this before coming to Vietnam. And the snow scene happened in a country I couldn't have expected," he recalled.
Like anyone who sees snow for the first time, the Filipino visitor was as excited as a child. He made snowballs, took pictures and enjoyed the fairytale atmosphere despite the bitter cold. For him, this moment was so wonderful that he wanted to keep it in his heart forever.
Before leaving, the group also brought along a Philippine flag to take a photo on top of Fansipan as a souvenir. After their snow adventure, they left and warmed up with some local food. That was hot bowls of pho in Sapa town. The group also spent time walking around the square, buying some souvenirs and singing karaoke at a local restaurant.

Having been in Vietnam for nearly 2 years, although he hasn't traveled much, Diotay has experienced some beautiful destinations.
The place that impressed him the most was Trang An (Ninh Binh) with its limestone mountains and peaceful atmosphere like being lost in a fairyland. Or the trip to Hue and Da Nang not long ago also made him remember it forever.
"Vietnam has many wonderful landscapes and the people are friendly and hospitable. I plan to find a new job in Hanoi and spend time exploring more destinations in this country in the near future," he confided.
Fansipan is the highest mountain in Vietnam, located on the Hoang Lien Son mountain range with a peak of over 3,143m. This is also the highest mountain in the Indochina peninsula, so it is known as the "Roof of Indochina".
In the last days of January, the temperature here dropped to -6 degrees Celsius and ice and snow appeared. The ice phenomenon lasted for many days along with the winter snowfall, creating a fascinating landscape that attracts visitors.
