President Yoon Suk-yeol was banned from leaving the country at the request of police, prosecutors and anti-corruption agencies as they expand their investigation into him, Bae Sang-up, commissioner of the Justice Ministry's immigration agency, said.
South Korean police officials are also considering the possibility of directly questioning President Yoon.

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense earlier announced the suspension and travel ban of three generals directly involved in President Yoon Suk-yeol's martial law enforcement. These three are accused by the opposition of rebellion.
Under the South Korean Constitution, the President remains head of government and commander-in-chief of the military unless he or she becomes incapacitated, resigns, or vacates office. In such a case, power passes to the Prime Minister until new elections are held.
The impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol was dropped earlier after ruling party lawmakers boycotted the vote. However, the opposition Democratic Party will introduce a new impeachment motion on December 11.
On December 8, South Korean prosecutors arrested former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun to serve an investigation into charges related to treason following President Yoon Suk-Yeol's martial law declaration last week.
Mr. Kim Yong-hyun was arrested about 6 hours after arriving at the special investigation headquarters for questioning at 1:30 a.m. on December 8. Before being arrested, Mr. Kim Yong-hyun declared that he would actively cooperate with the investigation agency.
The special investigation team said there were sufficient grounds to urgently arrest former minister Kim Yong-hyun due to his alleged incitement to riot, as well as concerns about the risk of evidence being destroyed.
