On November 16, South Korean Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo said at a press conference that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help end North Korea's provocations, Pyongyang's increased military cooperation with Moscow, and North Korea's support for Russia in the conflict in Ukraine.
During a summit with Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima, Peru, Yoon Suk Yeol said: "I hope our two countries will cooperate to promote stability and peace in the region in the face of North Korea's continued provocations, the war in Ukraine, and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea."
For his part, Xi Jinping stated that China does not want tensions to escalate on the Korean Peninsula. He also expressed hope that the parties involved will pursue a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiations to reach a "political solution."
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to continue discussions and strengthen bilateral relations.
On November 15, in the capital Lima of Peru, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week.
According to Yonhap news agency, this is the first time in two years that the leaders of the two Northeast Asian countries have met face to face.
