Mr. Amon Murwira said that Zimbabwe's constitution emphasizes that the country must not only pursue pan-Africanism but also join progressive groups that are beneficial to the country's socio-economic development and promote peace in the world. Peace is consolidated through economic development.
Accordingly, Zimbabwe has officially submitted an application to join BRICS and is awaiting a consensus decision from the group's current members.
"Our country is looking to cooperate with groups like BRICS to find solutions to boost the economy," Mr. Amon Murwira emphasized.
Last year, BRICS expanded with the addition of Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Earlier this year, Indonesia also officially joined the group.
By 2025, countries such as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cuba, Uganda, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan are expected to become official BRICS partners.
In addition, more than two dozen other countries — including regional powers — have expressed interest in cooperating with the group, according to senior Russian officials.
