President Yoon leaves detention on the afternoon of March 8.
Reuters reported on the afternoon of March 8 that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol had just been released, after the court accepted his petition to oppose the arrest warrant and the prosecution did not appeal the court's decision.
Earlier, a special investigation team said it had notified the Seoul Detention Center in the Uiwang area south of the capital to release him, a day after the Seoul Central District Court ordered his release.

With the above verdict, President Yoon was asked to continue attending the trial from outside, according to AFP.
Mr. Yoon was released 52 days after investigators arrested and brought him here on January 15 on charges of inciting rebellion through the declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024.
Previously, on February 25, Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol attended the final impeachment hearing to determine his responsibility for declaring martial law in December 2024.

He has been impeached by the National Assembly and if the Constitutional Court of South Korea finds him guilty, he will be removed from office. If not, he will be reinstated.
In court, Mr. Yoon apologized to the people but denied the charges of rebellion, according to Yonhap. "The opposition party claims that I declared martial law to establish a dictatorship and prolong my rule. This is a fabricated conspiracy to accuse me of rebellion," Mr. Yoon continued.
He said that at that time, South Korea was facing an "existential crisis" and there was an urgent need to recognize the situation and take action to overcome it.
According to Yonhap, the court's decision to release President Yoon has sparked fierce debate between the ruling People's Power Party and the opposition Democratic Party.
