A San Francisco federal court has ruled that social network Twitter (now renamed X) breached its contract by failing to pay millions of dollars in bonuses for outstanding contributions from employees as promised.
The lawsuit, filed by a group of current and former Twitter employees, alleges that Twitter promised to pay employees their 2022 bonuses if they remained employed through the first quarter of 2023.
In its ruling, the court affirmed that Twitter’s breach of contract claim under California law was valid. Specifically, Twitter had verbally committed to paying each employee a portion of the anticipated bonus.
These promises were made both before and after billionaire Elon Musk bought the social media platform in October 2022. However, Twitter failed to deliver on these promises, thus breaching the contract. Social Network X can appeal the above court ruling.
