(CLO) Billionaire Elon Musk, a special advisor in the administration of US President Donald Trump, called for "pardoning" Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and sending him to another country in a post on social network X.
Musk also echoed US President Donald Trump’s call for Ukraine to hold presidential elections. Trump has urged Ukraine to hold elections as part of a three-phase process to reach peace in the Russia-Ukraine war, which Russian and US officials discussed during peace talks in Saudi Arabia last month.

On February 25, the Ukrainian parliament passed a resolution affirming Mr Zelensky's presidency and ordering that elections cannot be held during martial law. It said the elections would be held "after comprehensive, fair and lasting peace is ensured on its territory".
However, in the post on X, Mr. Musk still called for Ukraine to hold elections and accused Mr. Zelenskyy of "sending innocent Ukrainians to die in his meat grinder… Yes. Although it is unpleasant, Zelenskyy should be offered some kind of amnesty in a neutral country in exchange for a peaceful transition back to democracy in Ukraine."

Mr. Musk received backlash for his X post. In their responses, users criticized his use of the word “pardon,” implying that President Zelenskyy had committed a crime. X users also cited Ukraine’s support for Zelenskyy, a reference to his approval rating.
President Trump and Mr. Musk have both claimed that Mr. Zelenskyy’s approval rating is 4%. However, according to a recent poll conducted by Gradus Research, the number is 49%.
