Vietnam has 63 provinces, but this is the only one named after President Ho Chi Minh, and is one of the richest and most developed regions in our country.
Van Don
The history of the formation of Van Don trading port was recorded quite briefly in Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu: "Ky Ty, (Dai Dinh) year 10 (1149), spring, month 2, merchant ships from the three countries Trao Oa, Lo Lac, and Siam entered Hai Dong, asked to reside and trade, so they established a village on the island, called Van Don, to buy and sell precious goods, and offer local products".
The name Van Don first appeared in Vietnamese history from then on. Over time and through historical influences, Van Don trading port flourished in the 13th-16th centuries, and in the 17th and 18th centuries, its role gradually declined after trading points moved further inland.
Trang Van Don (also known as Van village) is the ancient name of today's Quan Lan commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, which has existed and developed for nearly 900 years.
