For his part, Governor Omura Hideaki of Aichi congratulated Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on being elected by the National Assembly to the position of Deputy Prime Minister, expressing his delight at being the first international guest to be received by the Deputy Prime Minister. Regarding cooperation activities with Vietnam, Governor Omura Hideaki said that Aichi Prefecture has signed a memorandum of understanding on investment promotion with the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, and a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Also during his visit to Vietnam, Mr. Omura Hideaki worked with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and airlines Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet to discuss cooperation opportunities between Aichi Prefecture and Vietnam in the fields of transportation and investment. According to Governor Omura Hideaki, there are currently about 200 enterprises headquartered in Aichi Prefecture investing in Vietnam, ranking first among Japanese localities with enterprises investing in Vietnam. Aichi Prefecture is also home to about 60,000 Vietnamese people, the largest Vietnamese community in Japan, even larger than Tokyo (about 54,000 people). For that reason, Governor of Aichi Omura Hideaki hopes that the Vietnamese Government will consider opening a consulate general in Nagoya City and encourage airlines to increase flight frequency and open new routes to this prefecture.
