TikTok will spend $8.8 billion on data centers in Thailand over the next five years, double its initial proposal.
According to Vice President of Public Policy ByteDance – TikTok’s parent company, the investment in infrastructure in Thailand is to support domestic users. TikTok currently has about 50 million users in the land of golden pagodas.
Thailand is among the Southeast Asian countries attracting major investments from global tech giants such as Microsoft, Nvidia and Apple, all keen to tap into the growth potential of the rapidly digitizing region.
In a statement, TikTok said the investment commitment is aimed at making operations more efficient and localized, better serving users and customers in Thailand and Southeast Asia. It also helps strengthen Thailand's digital competitiveness.
With a fast-growing user base and over 3 million merchants, Thailand is an important market for TikTok in Southeast Asia. The company will continue to work with the government and local partners.

In 2024, investment commitments to Thailand will increase by 35% compared to 2023, to 1.14 trillion baht ($33.3 billion), the highest level since 2014. This year, Thailand aims to reach at least 1,000 billion baht in new investment commitments.
