Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh set out three important goals that the logistics industry needs to aim for: reducing logistics costs; increasing the proportion of the logistics industry in GDP to 20%; and increasing the logistics growth rate to 20%.

On December 2, in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and spoke at the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024, with the theme "Free trade zones, breakthrough solutions to promote logistics growth" .

The Prime Minister emphasized that over the past time, the Government has continued to improve mechanisms and policies, reduce and simplify administrative procedures and specialized inspections, and shift from pre-inspection to post-inspection.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave a speech at the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024.

Regarding logistics infrastructure, the State has invested in a highway system of over 2,000 km. Vietnam is also determined to build a high-speed North-South railway, connecting with railways in Laos and China.

Meanwhile, the airport system is developing relatively well, inland waterway transport is increasing, and logistics centers are heavily invested.

As a result, the number of logistics enterprises continues to increase, with 7,919 newly established logistics enterprises in 2023. Logistics human resource training is also promoted, with 49 universities offering logistics majors.

With synchronous investment, many international logistics rankings of Vietnam have improved significantly. According to the World Bank's ranking data, in 2023, Vietnam's logistics efficiency index ranked 43/139, Vietnam was ranked in the top 5 ASEAN markets.

In addition to the achievements, the Prime Minister also pointed out the current limitations and shortcomings of the logistics industry such as high logistics costs, weak and insufficient human resources; weak business development; limited linkages between transportation methods and warehouses; and outdated logistics infrastructure.

From the limitations pointed out, the Prime Minister clearly stated 3 development goals for the logistics industry including: reducing logistics costs compared to Vietnam's GDP from 18% to 15% in 2025; increasing the proportion of Vietnam's logistics industry in GDP scale from 10% to 15% and striving to reach 20%, increasing the proportion of Vietnam's logistics industry compared to the scale of the global logistics industry from 0.4% to 0.5% and striving to reach 0.6%; increasing the growth rate of Vietnam's logistics industry from the current 14-15% per year to 20%.

To achieve the three set goals, the Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors and enterprises to implement seven breakthrough solutions to develop the logistics industry, contributing to achieving double-digit economic growth each year.

In particular, it is necessary to exploit the potential differences, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages in the world logistics chain to the fullest. Next is to create institutional breakthroughs in the direction of openness; build smooth infrastructure to reduce logistics costs...

“The Government will continue to promote its creative role, focusing on building strategies, planning, development plans, institutions, mechanisms, and policies, creating an open environment for development, designing tools for resource mobilization, monitoring, and inspection,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Head of Government hopes that domestic and foreign enterprises and investors will continue to accompany the Government, develop the logistics industry in the spirit of harmonious benefits, shared risks; listen and understand together, share vision and action together, work together, win together, enjoy together, develop together, share joy, happiness and pride.

The Prime Minister believes that, with the existing foundation and momentum of acceleration and breakthrough, the Vietnamese logistics industry will confidently and strongly develop with many high-quality logistics service centers associated with free trade zones.

In particular, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province must take the lead in the development of the logistics industry, making an important contribution to the development of the country in the era of national growth, prosperity and development.
