The Prime Minister stated that by 2025, the country must achieve the goal of having at least 3,000 km of expressways and 1,000 km of coastal roads... Some transport projects are expected to be completed in 2027 but efforts can be made to complete them earlier if the time and conditions are favorable.
On the afternoon of March 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the transport sector, chaired the 16th meeting of the Steering Committee.
The meeting was held in person and online between the Government headquarters and 44 provinces and centrally-run cities with important national and key transport projects in the area.

The meeting aims to inspect and urge work after the 15th meeting and discuss solutions, continue to remove difficulties and obstacles, and speed up the progress of works and projects.
In his opening speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated: "One of the important solutions to achieve growth from 8% is to focus resources on completing a synchronous and modern strategic infrastructure, clearing and effectively using public investment, using public investment to lead private investment, and activating all other resources. In public investment, investment in transport works accounts for a large proportion."
The Prime Minister stated that by 2025, the country must complete the goal of having at least 3,000 km of expressways and 1,000 km of coastal roads, basically opening the expressway from Cao Bang through Lang Son to Ca Mau; basically completing Long Thanh airport, Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal, Lach Huyen port, etc.
He requested that some transportation projects scheduled to be completed in 2027 can be completed earlier if there are opportunities and favorable conditions.

The Prime Minister also reiterated the request for ministries, agencies, and localities to urgently complete the allocation of the entire state budget investment plan for 2025, to be completed before March 15, 2025.
"In case of failure to allocate on time, the Government will recover the unallocated central budget capital to allocate to other projects in need of capital to speed up progress and review and handle responsibilities," the head of the Government emphasized.
At the same time, strive to save an additional 10% of regular expenses in 2025 compared to the annual budget to focus on the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project.
According to the Prime Minister, promoting and completing strategic transport projects is of great significance in welcoming Party Congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress, major holidays and important anniversaries in 2025.
The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to review projects; report on difficulties and problems that need to be further resolved, especially materials for key transport projects in the Mekong Delta; site clearance, handover, relocation of technical infrastructure; procedures and construction status of projects.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister commended and welcomed Ho Chi Minh City for officially inaugurating metro line No. 1 on the same morning.
Expected to complete 1,188 km of highway by 2025
According to the Ministry of Construction, at the 15th meeting on December 6, 2024, the Prime Minister assigned 33 tasks to ministries, branches and localities, focusing on removing difficulties and obstacles, and speeding up procedures for preparing investment projects.
To date, the units have completed 22 tasks on time, including a number of important tasks.
Regarding the implementation of expressway projects planned to be completed in 2025 to achieve the goal of having 3,000 km of expressway nationwide, currently, the Ministry of Construction, localities and Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) are implementing 28 projects/component projects with a total length of about 1,188 km, expected to be completed in 2025.
