* PRE-MATCH PREDICTIONS
Attitude towards the game is important
We have learned that we have not yet achieved a good emotional balance when meeting the Portuguese team. The final match of the 2023 Women's World Cup against the Netherlands women's team will also have other difficulties when we have been officially eliminated. If we do not do well in the psychological factor, the team will fall into a state of giving up, in the direction of "after the exam, everyone will go home". That is the basic psychological and emotional development of anyone. But perhaps for each member of the Vietnamese women's team, their thoughts and motivations will be very different.
Although we have not been really successful in the past two matches, the golden girls of Vietnamese football have shown their opponents as well as football fans around the world their brave spirit and great efforts and desire to compete. We have shown the reigning champion USA or the new rising star Portugal our ability to defend tightly and effectively, and the power of solidarity. Even though in terms of expertise, we are inferior to our opponents in all aspects: physique, physical strength, individual technical qualities, and awareness of modern tactics. But the desire and the spirit of overcoming difficulties are extremely wonderful qualities that perhaps the world will forever remember.
In the final match of the group stage, the Vietnamese women's team needs to maintain that mentality. What we need is not only a positive result against the Netherlands but also to show the world that we can stand up after defeats, how steadfast we are when facing a top opponent in the world. What we learn and how we grow through defeats.
It's time to give the younger generation a chance.
In the past two matches, coach Mai Duc Chung used 6 players in defense, about 6 in midfield, and Hai Yen - Huynh Nhu took turns taking on the spearhead position. There were also alternating choices between veterans and young players with great potential in Vietnamese women's football. Names of the 2K generation such as Thu Thuong, Thanh Nha, Hai Linh... had the opportunity to experience the World Cup atmosphere, even being selected to play as starters. But there are still Van Su, Vu Thi Hoa or Thuy Hang..., players who are predicted to take on the responsibility left by their seniors in the national team in the near future.
Vietnamese women's football once had a "diamond" generation with Kim Thanh, Chuong Thi Kieu, Tuyet Dung, Huynh Nhu, Bich Thuy, Thuy Trang, Hoang Thi Loan, Hai Yen. These outstanding players helped Vietnam win 4 consecutive SEA Games championships, reach the quarter-finals of the Asian football tournament and participate in the World Cup for the first time. That is a huge list of achievements with miraculous journeys. But most of the members of this generation have passed the age of 30, starting to enter the twilight of their careers. Many female players have considered leaving the team after the World Cup.
The story of "old bamboo, new bamboo" and succession in the national team is probably an inevitable thing in the football world. Vietnamese women's football used to be very good, once leading the Southeast Asian region. But without careful preparation, without scientific and systematic succession, we could fall into a situation of shortage of force and crisis. Therefore, the final match against the Netherlands women's team will be a great opportunity for coach Mai Duc Chung to test and evaluate the quality of the next generation.
The future of Vietnamese women's football belongs to the young generation and if they have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere and level of the World Cup, and gain practical lessons from very strong opponents like the Dutch women's team, it will certainly be extremely useful for them on the difficult but proud journey ahead.
