Ngo Huynh Quoc Thang is one of the two valedictorians of the 10th grade entrance exam in Da Nang this year. Quoc Thang excitedly shared that when he received the news that he was the valedictorian, he was very surprised, even though he knew in advance that he had achieved perfect scores in both Math and English. "When I left the exam room, I was sure that I got a perfect score in Math. I wasn't so sure about English, but when I got home and looked at the answers, I knew that I also got a perfect score," Thang said. This year's Math exam was considered quite difficult, with only 16 candidates in Da Nang achieving a perfect score. For Thang, it only took him about 90 minutes to complete the exam, and the remaining 30 minutes to review and revise his work.

This is probably not too surprising because Thang once won the first prize in the city's excellent math competition. According to Thang, he doesn't have many secrets other than listening carefully to his teachers' lectures in class. At home, he reviews and finds more advanced exercises. He studies math and English. As for Literature, he studies at home. Thang divides his time equally between the three subjects. When the exam is near, he spends more time on Literature. Talking about how to self-study literature, Thang said: "I have a firm grasp of the knowledge right from class, listen carefully to the lecture, take notes of the content. If I don't understand any part, I will ask the teacher to answer the question right away. I don't memorize but learn the ideas, then read and understand, refer to documents, practice writing and analysis skills," Thang shared. In the days before the exam, Thang focuses on reviewing all the content he has learned, seeing which parts are still weak and not yet mastered. I also do the previous years' exams to get used to them, practice my test-taking skills, and detect common mistakes. The valedictorian of grade 10 in Da Nang said that normally I can study until almost 1am before going to bed, but more than a month before the exam, I will go to bed early and not study past 11pm. The purpose is to maintain my health and have a comfortable mindset.

“Staying up all night and cramming will be counterproductive, affecting your health and not being effective, leading to poor test results,” the male student shared. In addition to studying, Thang enjoys playing badminton and soccer. This is how he exercises and relieves stress in his studies. When he learned that Thang was the valedictorian, Mr. Pham Tien Vuong, a math teacher and homeroom teacher, shared that he was very happy with his student’s results but was not too surprised because Thang was an excellent student. In grade 9, he won first prize in the city-level math competition. Thang was good at all subjects. His average academic result was 9.6 points. Mr. Vuong commented that Thang was very obedient, polite to teachers, sociable with friends, and actively participated in class and school activities. In his studies, he was very diligent, studious, and had no faults. “During the teaching process, I was sure Thang would get high scores in the exam and be admitted to Le Quy Don Math School. Thang is a good student and has a very good attitude and awareness of studying. In particular, he has a passion for Math. When the teacher gives the whole class Math exercises, Thang does them very quickly. While waiting for his classmates to do their exercises, he takes out his own homework and personal exercises to do more, taking advantage of every moment to study," said teacher Vuong.
