Turning off the lights in response to Earth Hour is a practical action to raise public awareness about sustainable energy use, contributing to the common effort in protecting the planet.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has sent a document to the ministries, branches, and central organizations; People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities; embassies and international organizations in Vietnam on instructions for organizing activities in response to World Water Day, World Meteorological Day, and Earth Hour Campaign in 2025.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that agencies, organizations and individuals organize activities to respond to the Earth Hour Campaign worldwide by "Turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment from 20:30 to 21:30, Saturday, March 22". At the same time, maintain the habit of using energy efficiently and economically, associated with conserving energy resources from industrial production, trade and services, transportation, agricultural, forestry, fishery and aquaculture production to household consumption; Balance greenhouse gas emission reduction and aim for maximum conversion to renewable energy.
Noi Bai International Airport will also turn off lights and reduce electricity usage during Earth Hour.
Last year, Noi Bai International Airport applied many technical measures in operating and exploiting equipment to ensure flight operations and passenger services to reduce power consumption, thereby saving 614,466 kWh of electricity - equivalent to about 1.8 billion VND.
Noi Bai International Airport has replaced thousands of energy-consuming fluorescent and compact bulbs with LED lights in areas such as Terminal T1, Terminal T2 and the airport area. Upgrading the LED lighting system at Terminal T2 alone has helped save 326,469 kWh/year.
Baggage conveyor systems and air conditioning systems are programmed to optimize operating time, limiting unnecessary energy consumption. The airport also updated its Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software, saving 104,768 kWh/year.
Noi Bai International Airport also improved the Chiller cooling system at the terminal to help save 54,043 kWh/year. Installed light sensors and timer switches to adjust the public lighting system, advertising and outdoor decoration according to each time frame and season of the year.
The office at the International Airport also limits the use of high-power electrical equipment during peak hours, and turns off unnecessary equipment after work. Take advantage of natural light and ventilation, and minimize the use of air conditioning when not really necessary. Maintain the air conditioning temperature at 26 degrees Celsius or higher, and turn off the air conditioning 30 minutes before the end of work hours.
The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) is also implementing many practical activities to raise public awareness about efficient energy use and environmental protection.
