Pepper prices today, August 19, 2024, in the domestic market turned to increase in key localities, trading from 138,000 - 140,000 VND/kg.

Pepper prices today in the provinces of Dong Nai (138,000 VND/kg); Dak Lak (140,000 VND/kg); Dak Nong (139,000 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (138,000 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (138,000 VND/kg).
Thus, after 2 days of decline, domestic pepper prices today turned to increase in key localities, increasing by 1,500 - 2,500 VND/kg. The highest pepper price is at 140,000 VND/kg.
For nearly a month, domestic pepper prices have fluctuated up/down within a narrow range, with the downward trend dominating. This has left many farmers, traders and speculators disappointed.
On many pepper forums, market price information is a matter of concern. Currently, Vietnam's pepper price is the lowest in the world. Specifically, Indonesian black pepper price is at 187,005 VND/kg; Malaysian black pepper is at 214,455 VND/kg; Brazilian black pepper is at 155,796 VND/kg; Vietnamese black pepper is at 146,334 VND/kg.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, in the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 164,357 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 145,330 tons and white pepper reached 19,027 tons. Total export turnover reached 764.2 million USD, black pepper reached 652.0 million USD, white pepper reached 112.2 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2023, the export volume decreased by 2.2% but the export turnover increased by 40.8%.
The average export price of black pepper in the first 7 months reached 4,568 USD/ton, white pepper reached 6,195 USD/ton, up 32.7% for black pepper and 25.0% USD for white pepper respectively compared to the same period last year.
The US is Vietnam's largest pepper export market, up 48.4% in the first 7 months and accounting for 26.4% of the market share, reaching 43,349 tons. Next are the markets: Germany reaching 10,941 tons, up 97.3%; UAE reaching 10,897 tons, up 39.2%; India reaching 8,744 tons, up 39.7%; China ranked 4th with 8,059 tons, down 84.6% over the same period.
According to Chinese Customs data, Vietnam was the second largest pepper supplier to China, after Indonesia, in the first half of 2024 with 1,515 tons, down 7.6% year-on-year. Meanwhile, Vietnam's market share in China accounted for 32.7%, down from 36.5% in the same period in 2023.
Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 7,412 USD/ton, stable compared to yesterday, the price of Muntok white pepper remained unchanged at 8,728 USD/ton.
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained stable at USD 6,175/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper continued to stand firm at USD 8,500/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 10,400/ton.
