Domestic pepper price updated on March 9, 2025

The Vietnamese pepper market in early 2025 is witnessing many fluctuations as farmers continue to limit sales, expecting prices to increase. Although harvesting activities are taking place strongly in key growing areas, most of the output is still retained instead of being brought to the market, reducing transaction volume.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first two months of 2025, Vietnam exported 27,416 tons of pepper, earning 184.9 million USD. Output decreased by 11.9% compared to the same period last year, but thanks to high export prices, turnover still increased sharply by 48.1%. Currently, the export price of black pepper is 6,648 USD/ton, while white pepper is at 8,501 USD/ton.

Farmers in Dak Nong province harvest pepper

According to Ptexim's report, currently in many key pepper growing areas of Vietnam, harvesting activities are taking place strongly. However, many farmers are still holding on to their products, causing limited supply.

Competition from other crops such as coffee and durian continues to discourage farmers from selling pepper. They also tend to store their products at home instead of sending them to agents as they used to. This makes trading in the market more limited than in previous years.

Currently, the US remains the largest customer of Vietnamese pepper with 5,890 tons, accounting for 21.5% of the market share, despite a sharp decrease of 32.7% in imports compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, China had a significant breakthrough, increasing by 86.6% to 1,523 tons, reflecting the recovery of demand after a period of tightening import controls. Other markets such as Germany and India showed signs of decline, while the UAE grew by 21.9%, reaching 1,480 tons.
