Experts predict that if international demand does not increase, pepper prices may face downward pressure. However, in the long term, the global spice market is expected to grow by 5.2% per year. Vietnam is promoting deep processing to increase export value, but still faces many challenges related to climate, disease and logistics costs.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), as of the end of February 2025, Vietnam exported 27,416 tons of pepper, reaching a turnover of 184.9 million USD. Although output decreased by 11.9% compared to the same period last year, turnover still increased by 48.1% thanks to the export price of black pepper reaching 6,648 USD/ton and white pepper reaching 8,501 USD/ton.
Although the planting area is only 15% of coffee and 12% of rubber, pepper still contributes 23% of coffee export turnover and 38% of rubber, showing great potential if there is a suitable development strategy.
