(HGO) - At the Nga Bay City Basketball Stadium, on the afternoon of August 2, the boxing competitions of the 9th Mekong Delta Sports Festival - Hau Giang 2023 took place, lasting until August 6. There were 139 athletes (77 men, 62 women) from 7 provinces and cities: Ca Mau, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Tien Giang, Dong Thap and Hau Giang participating. Boxing has 27 competition events, 14 weight classes for men (over 42kg to 92kg) and 13 weight classes for women (from over 40kg to 81kg), competing in a knockout format. The competition time is 3 rounds, 3 minutes/round, with a 1-minute break in each round. Hau Giang delegation participated with 27 athletes (14 men, 13 women) and 2 coaches, aiming for the top 3 leading teams.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hung, Director of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, presented souvenir flags to the delegations participating in boxing.
- From August 2 to 7, at the An Giang Province Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center, the taekwondo competition will begin, hosted by An Giang Province. There are 10 participating provinces and cities including Can Tho, Soc Trang, An Giang, Tien Giang, Long An, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, with 132 athletes (60 women, 72 men). Athletes will compete in 23 events: individual combat (8 men's weight categories, 8 women's weight categories), team combat (women's team no more than 318kg/5 athletes, men's team no more than 373kg/5 athletes), boxing (men's individual, women's individual; men's team, women's team; mixed doubles). At this year's congress, An Giang Province will host competitions in 5 events: taekwondo, traditional martial arts, canoeing, athletics and weightlifting, from August 1 to September 1.

Boxing and taekwondo are the third and fourth events of the 9th Mekong Delta Sports Festival - Hau Giang 2023, respectively. Previously, women's beach volleyball took place from July 11 to 13 in Kien Giang province, and kickboxing from July 25 to 28 in Hau Giang province. This festival will organize 27 events, attracting about 2,400 coaches and athletes from 13 provinces and cities in the region, competing from July to October 2023.
