
On the morning of March 21, in the old forest in O Giang village (Ia Pech commune, Ia Grai district, Gia Lai province), O Giang villagers held a forest worship ceremony under the witness of local authorities and forest rangers.

Forest worship is an annual traditional ritual of the Jrai people in the two villages of O Giang and De Chi (Ia Pech commune), to thank the forest for protecting the villagers, thereby educating the younger generation to raise awareness of preserving and protecting the forest.
This year, O Giang village hosted the ceremony. The ceremony was held in an ancient forest about 5km from the village.

From early morning, villagers are busy going through the forest to prepare offerings, sticky rice, chicken, pork, rice wine, and traditional dishes...

At around 10:30 a.m., village elder Siu Doi represented the villagers in performing a ritual of reading a prayer, praying that the gods would protect and shelter the villagers, bring favorable weather and bountiful crops. Elder Siu Doi also called on the villagers to work together to protect the forest.
After the forest worship ceremony, villagers ate together in the forest, showing their solidarity in protecting the green forest.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Ia Grai District Forest Protection Department, said that through the forest worship ritual, people understand the value of the forest better and try to preserve and protect it. Thanks to that, the forests in the two villages are strictly managed and protected, and there are no violations of forestry laws.
