SHB offers free conversion of magnetic stripe cards to VCCS-certified chip cards.

To enhance security and safety in card transactions,SHB will support customers in converting their magnetic stripe ATM cards to chip-based cards compliant with VCCS standards at no cost. This is considered an effective solution in ensuring the safety of card transactions for customers according to international standards. Accordingly, to own a modern chip-based domestic card, customers only need to bring their identification documents (ID card/citizen identification card with chip) to SHB transaction points nationwide to receive guidance on card conversion and biometric updating as soon as possible.

Magnetic stripe ATM cards are cards with a dark magnetic stripe on their surface. During transactions, customers may inadvertently reveal their information when entering their PIN, as malicious actors may secretly record this information with devices to steal assets. Magnetic stripe cards are also prone to scratches after a period of use, which can significantly affect their future usability. In contrast, SHB's VCCS-certified domestic chip debit cards store card information on an electronic chip, minimizing fraud and deception, and enhancing security and safety, comparable to high-end cards worldwide . Furthermore, the card features contactless transaction technology; customers simply place, touch, or lightly wave the card over a point-of-sale (POS) terminal with one-touch payment capabilities to complete transactions quickly and easily.

In the near future, SHB will soon cease operation of all magnetic stripe cards to ensure greater security for customers when making card transactions. Simultaneously, for customers currently using magnetic stripe cards and with no transactions in the last 12 months, SHB will suspend card operation and transactions 10 days after sending a notification to each customer via email/push app notification. Importantly, during the card conversion process, in addition to domestic debit cards, customers can also choose to open and use EMV chip international debit cards such as SHB Visa/Mastercard Debit, SHB-FCB Mastercard Debit for transactions, payments, cash withdrawals… anytime, anywhere globally; and enjoy monthly cashback offers of up to 2% on food, travel, hotels, supermarket spending, sports, fashion , advertising…
