The Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival 2025 aims to honor, preserve and develop the traditional salt profession, enhance the value of the Vietnamese salt profession in general, and of Bac Lieu province in particular, thereby arousing the love for traditional professions of the young generation with qualifications to participate in production, business and start-up activities from the salt profession. The festival has outstanding activities such as: Space for displaying and introducing salt, spices and OCOP products; activities "going to Bac Lieu to listen to traditional music", organizing a space to display models, artifacts, technical advances in salt production and processing; tours to visit tourist attractions and historical sites; workshop "orientation and solutions for developing Bac Lieu salt tourism products".
The country's salt area is about 10,749 hectares, with an output of 900,000 to 1.2 million tons/year. Bac Lieu is the locality with the largest area of 1,400 hectares, 900 households working in the salt industry, and a total output of tens of thousands of tons. In 2013, Bac Lieu salt was granted geographical indication protection; in 2020, the salt making profession was honored as a national intangible cultural heritage. To ensure an output of 2 million tons/year, many solutions are needed, of which organizing the Festival is also one of the important solutions.

Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu, co-head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said that since the beginning of the 20th century, Bac Lieu has been considered the salt capital of Vietnam, imbued with the cultural identity of Bac Lieu people. However, the salt-making profession is also facing many difficulties and challenges, such as low profits, manual production techniques, climate change... therefore, it is necessary to diversify products, bringing Bac Lieu salt in particular and Vietnamese salt in general further in the coming time.
In addition, many activities within the series of events of the Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu in 2025 were also organized by the Provincial People's Committee in coordination with the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, such as: Trade promotion fair for the collective economic sector and cooperatives, with an expected scale of 100 booths; Signing ceremony of the cooperation program between the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance and the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province for the period 2025-2030 on collective economic development and cooperatives; The 13th Executive Committee Conference of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, term VI, term 2020-2025; Conference on connecting trade and promoting trade for cooperatives; promoting technology application, innovation and digital transformation for cooperatives; Conference on disseminating regulations on borrowing capital from the Central Cooperative Support Fund for cooperatives, cooperative unions and members.
