In just 10 days, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has terminated the contracts with the coaches of the national 11-a-side and 5-a-side (futsal) teams.
Veteran strategist Carlos Cesar (red shirt) has said goodbye to the Thai futsal team. |
On the afternoon of December 1, FAT announced the termination of the contract with coach Carlos Cesar Nunez Gago of the Thai futsal team. FAT did not specify the reason for the Spanish coach's departure, and only updated that assistant coach Eloy Alonso would become the interim coach of the Thai futsal team while FAT searched for an official replacement.
Also in the announcement, Mr. Adisak Benjasiriwan, Vice President of Futsal and Beach Soccer of FAT, sent his thanks to Coach Carlos Cesar for his contributions and dedication during 1 year and 10 months in charge of the Thai futsal team.
Coach Carlos Cesar signed a contract to lead the Thai futsal team on February 10, 2022. During this time, he led the Thai futsal team to win 3 championships in the "NSDF Futsal Invitation 2022" Friendly Tournament, win the AFF Futsal Cup 2022, win the gold medal at the 31st SEA Games, and finish 4th at the 2022 Asian Futsal Championship. This shows that Thai futsal under coach Carlos Cesar still maintains its position as the number 1 team in the region and the top 4 in the continent.
Coach Masatada Ishii was appointed to lead the Thai team. |
After parting ways with coach Carlos Cesar, FAT is looking for a coach who is considered “better” with the hope of bringing the Thai futsal team to continue to win tickets to the Futsal World Cup through a top 4 finish in the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship finals. However, changing this coach also becomes a “double-edged sword” if the tactics from the new person do not have enough time for the players to adapt and apply successfully.
In the final stage of FAT President Somyot Poompanmoung's term, the Thai national teams are experiencing changes in terms of "captain". About 10 days before the futsal team, FAT said goodbye to coach Mano Polking and appointed Japanese coach Masatada Ishii to lead the Thai national team to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup. This is a surprise, because the time to change this "general" only takes place two months before the big continental football festival begins. Such a short period of time will become a barrier for Theerathon and his teammates to make professional progress with the "new coach".
