According to information from FAT, head coach Masatada Ishii and the coaching staff of the Thai team recently had a meeting to plan preparations for the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. The important content of this meeting includes making a preliminary list of players for the Thai team to register with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in addition to approving the training plan.

FAT and the coaching staff of the Thai national team will complete the submission of the preliminary list of players to the AFC before February 25. The official list of 23 players of the Thai team participating in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup will be finalized and announced on March 11. On March 17, the Thai national team will begin to gather to prepare for the Asian tournament.

A suitable opponent for Thailand to "test the waters"

It is known that before officially entering the journey to conquer the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the Thai team will have a friendly match to help coach Masatada Ishii perfect his players' techniques and tactics. The team from the land of the golden pagoda will face the Afghanistan team on March 21.

Afghanistan is a suitable opponent for the Thai team to "test their mettle". On the FIFA rankings, the "war elephants" are currently ranked 97th, while Afghanistan is ranked 156th.

The final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup will feature 24 teams, divided equally into 6 groups. The teams will compete in a double round-robin format (home and away), scoring points and ranking. The top team in each group will qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

Thailand is in Group D with Turkmenistan, Taiwan and Sri Lanka. The Thai team will play their opening match against Sri Lanka on March 25 at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok).

In the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in Group F with Malaysia, Nepal and Laos. Coach Kim Sang-sik's team will play their first match against Laos on March 25 at Binh Duong Stadium.
