After the Tet holiday, the teams returned to compete in round 12 of the 2024-2025 V-League. However, out of the 6 matches played, in 2 matches, the coaches of the teams complained about the condition of the pitch. In the match between Ha Tinh and Hanoi Police (CAHN), at the post-match press conference, coach Mano Polking said that the Ha Tinh pitch was so bad that CAHN could not play well and almost lost (0-0 draw). He said that the rough pitch made it impossible for the police team to play as expected.
Ha Tinh stadium's pitch is complained by coaches because it is too bad
"When I saw the Ha Tinh pitch, all my plans almost fell apart. It's terrible that V-League teams have to play on grass pitches like this. In this match, CAHN players couldn't play the football they wanted because the ball bounced too much. My team had to use more long balls than usual. There was a very long break recently to make way for the AFF Cup, that time should have been used to maintain the pitch, the bad pitch affects all teams," coach Mano Polking shared.
Sharing about the field issue, coach Nguyen Thanh Cong of Ha Tinh Club said that his team also suffered disadvantages: "This winter, the weather in Ha Tinh is not favorable, so it greatly affects the quality of the field. Our team also does not practice here and is probably the team that practices the least in the V-League, only 2-3 practice sessions."
In the match between The Cong Viettel and HAGL, in the post-match meeting, HAGL coach Le Quang Trai also assessed the condition of My Dinh stadium: "I see that My Dinh stadium has deteriorated after being rented out for events. The grass in the A stand area is very rough. I think the national stadium must be better maintained and serviced. My Dinh stadium today does not meet national standards."
Coach Nguyen Duc Thang of The Cong Viettel also shared: "From my perspective, the A stand area near the pitch is not beautiful at My Dinh Stadium. The field surface is bumpy, many areas of grass are peeling off...".
The issue of My Dinh Stadium's turf being criticized is not new. In the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, this stadium was severely criticized by foreign teams that came to compete with the Vietnamese team. Therefore, organizing two music nights on December 7 and 9, 2024 makes field maintenance even more difficult. That is also the reason why in the 2024 AFF Cup, My Dinh Stadium will no longer be the venue for the Vietnamese team's matches. Instead, the Vietnamese team's home matches will be held at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
If you look at the Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok, Thailand) in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup between Thailand and Vietnam, perhaps no one can criticize the grass here. Not only Rajamangala, other stadiums in Thailand of the clubs all have international standard grass, which has made the Thai League surpass the V-League. For the V-League, instead of spending billions to buy low-quality foreign players, the leaders of the teams should invest in taking care of the grass field where their team plays, something that seems small but is the face of the whole tournament.
