Cuu Long province was established in February 1976 under the Decree of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam on the basis of merging two provinces, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh. On December 26, 1991, the 10th session of the 8th National Assembly passed a resolution to divide Cuu Long province to re-establish Tra Vinh and Vinh Long provinces.

Tra Vinh has the highest growth rate in the Mekong Delta region.
Tra Vinh is a coastal province in the Southeast of the Mekong Delta, located between the Tien and Hau rivers, bordering the provinces of Ben Tre, Vinh Long, and Soc Trang, with a 65 km long coastline and a natural area of 2,358 km2.
Tra Vinh has 1 city, 1 town and 7 districts, with 2 seaports: Cung Hau and Dinh An. These are all important shipping routes of the Mekong Delta region connecting to the East Sea and connecting with the world.
Tra Vinh province has a tropical monsoon climate, is less affected by storms and floods, and has a higher elevation than neighboring areas.
This is also the land of the three ethnic groups Kinh, Khmer, and Hoa, of which the Khmer accounts for about 31% of the population. Accordingly, a multi-ethnic culture has been formed with many communal houses, pagodas, churches, and traditional festivals.
With a special geographical location between two large branches of the Tien River and the Hau River, adjacent to the East Sea, this land has formed many islands and sandbars along the river and the sea with rich, green specialized fruit gardens all year round.
The pristine environment in Tra Vinh is ranked 3rd in the top 15 cities with the cleanest air quality in Southeast Asia (announced by the global air quality monitoring agency IQAir in Switzerland).
This has created countless advantages for Tra Vinh to develop marine tourism, river and garden eco-tourism and resort tourism.
With its multi-ethnic culture and rich cuisine, every year, Tra Vinh welcomes groups of domestic and international tourists to explore and experience the unique cultural features remaining in the Southwest region.
