Hundreds of meters of coastline in Hoi An city are threatened by fierce waves day and night. People have spent hundreds of millions to build embankments but to no avail.
The project to prevent erosion and sustainably protect the Hoi An coast, Quang Nam province, funded by AFD and EU, after a period of preparation, has now officially entered the implementation phase.
The project to prevent erosion and sustainably protect the Hoi An coast is invested by the Quang Nam Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board. The total construction investment is 42 million Euros, equivalent to 982.239 billion VND, of which the AFD loan is 807.745 billion VND, equivalent to 35.00 million Euros, and the counterpart fund from the provincial budget is 127.907 billion VND. The implementation period is from 2019 to 2026.
The completed project is a comprehensive engineering solution to prevent erosion and sustainably protect Hoi An's coastline, meeting the urgent needs of housing stability and economic development of the community in the project area, protecting land, houses, property and lives of people, as well as tourism and resort infrastructure for the entire 3.2km2 of land area and more than 1,300 households in Cua Dai ward and neighboring areas, especially the coastal area.
In addition, it also creates conditions to stabilize people's lives, develop the local socio-economy, especially the tourism industry, in accordance with the planning and strategic development plan of Hoi An city in particular and adapt to climate change in coastal areas of Quang Nam province in general.
